Thanks lamewolf
We celebrated by going away for a long weekend with the dogs! Only £120 for 4nights, with laaate check out too
Thanks for the heads up sunnyone, as it turns out I had to wait for them to get them into store, but I ordered one for MIL, who now doesn't want it, and one for me in case the wheelchair itself wasn't comfy enough -but actually it's the best chair I've ever sat in! I'm really really happy with it, especially for £99.99 -the wheels come off with just a button click and it's really comfortable for both me to sit in, and DH to push... And shiny blue too
The wheelchair bag I got from them (4.99) was also really handy for our jaunts out this weekend"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -

Im pleased you like your new wheelchair, wheelchairs are as individual as shoes are and since I am in them for quite a long time comfort is one of the most important things I look out for.
I will find a use for the memory foam insert of the cushion and the cover is now on one of my favorite cushion as the origonal cover was a bit sweaty on warm days so it certainly wasnt a waste of money and I love the gloves, they are diffrent from any others I have had as they have full thumbs and would be great for cutchers as well as chairs because they have loverly padded palms. Real leather too!
I struggle with rear mounted wheelchair bags on my wheelchairs, they are great for my companions to use but I cant reach back their, one of the things I love about my new powerchairs cushion is the security pouch which comes out of the front of the cushion and it is a good strong material with a good strong zip and with more than enough room for my keys, purse, med box etc.0 -
Some good news for once, well, not so much news but..
We had some shelves put up in the under stairs cuboard in the kitchen, to make a kind of pantry so I could get to my food (can't bend down to the low cupboards but the wall mounted ones are too high) but they needed to be painted with a special paint as they were offgassing which was making my mums MCS really bad... I painted them! :T All of them. It took forever, and it killed, but I'm so proud of myself for persevering. :rotfl:
Usually I get a bee in my bonnet, decide I'm not actually disabled and can do something, go all out using 10 days worth of spoons and colapse before I've finished whatever it was, then feel both physically and mentally awful for the next week.... This time I listened to my body and did a bit at a time, taking lots of rests and not guilt tripping myself when I wasn't well enough to do it. I also asked for help from my mum, when I couldn't get to specific bits (which I am notoriously bad at doing) and together we finished it. I think I did about 70% of it but I could have done 100%, it would have just taken more spoons and time, and it was probably worth it to learn the 'asking for help' lesson.
On the not so good side, my gran had a fainting spell and fell over, breaking her hipShe had an operation yesterday and we've had updates saying she's doing as well as can be expected so that's good but it's still worrying.

BZ glad you managed to get away for a bit; we're going away the week after next, 3 nights in a 4-star hotel in Kent.:)
FP well done on getting the cupboard done; having your stuff where you can get to it yourself is vital! Mr LW now has to decant some milk into a jug for me to use throughout the day before he goes to work in the mornings, as I can no longer lift a full milk carton. Oh, and lots of healing vibes for your gran; I hope she makes a complete recovery.:o
News from the Wolf's Lair is that we've got a chap coming to demonstrate a bath lift on Friday 23rd (Mr LW will be on leave from work, so he'll be here to speak to the chap). After this last time Mr LW's back went "twang" it's high time we stopped prevaricating over a bath lift.;)If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
It's going to be so good to be able to get whatever I want to eat, without having to ask my mum to get it. It also means that I know what I have (because I can see it, or easily move things out of the way to see it) so I won't be buying things I've already got but can't find/reach. It's also going to help in the coming winter months as I can get myself a hot lunch, which will warm me up and mean the heating bill will be a bit lower but more importantly I will feel cosier.
I know what you're talking about re the milk thing. I can only have the smaller bottles of concentrated squash because I can't lift the bigger ones. I would say the same about milk but I don't drink much so if I were to get a bigger bottle it would just go off, we've got a corner shop close by (2 mins on the scooter) so I just get the smaller ones every time I run out. That's also why I buy cans of drink rather than big bottles, because I can open a ring pull but I can't lift the bottle and pour it in to a glass without making a mess.
I'm glad you're sorting out a bath lift, it makes a real difference to a carers own energy levels which in turn means a better relationship, or if you're very lucky it will continue a great relationship.0 -
That's fantastic juno
you must feel really good
having a quiet day today as need to go to GP, council office and my work tomorrow so conserving energy! hate having to do this forward planning thing, bad enough that need a restful day at home after a simple trip to the shop, even worse to have to rest the day before something too
Hoping will be able to use the bus tomorrow which is 5 mins walk away and drops right outside all of the places I need to be as getting a taxi will cost far too much and haven't really got anyone I can ask - yet again! - for lifts.
Oh well I had a delivery of chocolate today so that can keep me company!Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

I'm still at this stage...and although I may start with good intentions that this time I WILL listen to my body, I get caught up in it and do too much in the end.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

As for the gloves, they did look brilliant - I tried them on and everything but as I don't self-propel, and DH said he wouldn't have a use for them, I left them... I didn't think about using them with the crutches though!I struggle with rear mounted wheelchair bags on my wheelchairs, they are great for my companions to use but I cant reach back their, one of the things I love about my new powerchairs cushion is the security pouch which comes out of the front of the cushion and it is a good strong material with a good strong zip and with more than enough room for my keys, purse, med box etc.BZ glad you managed to get away for a bit; we're going away the week after next, 3 nights in a 4-star hotel in Kent.:)News from the Wolf's Lair is that we've got a chap coming to demonstrate a bath lift on Friday 23rd (Mr LW will be on leave from work, so he'll be here to speak to the chap). Ooh, I got given one of these by social services, and it is pretty good! Better than I thought it was going to be, IMO.
OMG that looks perfect for what I need! How did you get social services to pay for it? Can it be uninstalled and transfered to another bath easily? (I'm hoping to move and the OT said she didn't want to do anything expensive that couldn't be moved) Currently I haven't washed since saturday because I just couldnt face trying to get myself in and out of the bath. I got a bath board, but it still means getting down and up from it on to the board it's self and thats just really difficult and dangerous.0
