Well, I've been clean for seven years now, why the hell would I want to do that? And how is any of this helping the OP?

It's not but I will take the answer that you have given as an admission that you have arrested your addiction and not overcome it.

Well done though on 7 years, a very good achievement.

I would like to know what the OP done to get such a harsh punishment, you don't get 200 hours community service, a 12 month suspended sentence and a tagging order for stealing a few quid out a till

It must have been something serious or not a first offense, something tells me its the latter :o

is that a harsh sentence then, to me it seems soft, I am astounded at what people are allowed to get away with...........

    Mrmacman,

I've taken every !!!!ing drug, still do in fact (apart from benzos), there's nothing so addictive it makes you nick stuff. It's pretty easy to give anything up.

    But I say:

Chaps, regardless of our feelings, it's pretty clear that mrmacman is being sincere about changing his life around. What possible reason is there to take out your frustration upon him!? It makes no sense. From perspectives of both justice and economics we should be encouraging him as he genuinely seems to be turning his life around.

So, mrmacman, I can't really help with your question. But I wish you the best of luck going forward - it's going to be a tough few years. But please stay on the staright and narrow, and you will get through this. And a work ethic is enough. Heck, don't even give up the drugs if you can't do without them; just make sure you can make enough to pay for them.

I have confidence in you, even though I am an internet stranger.

    Peace :)

Oh look another 12-step cult member.

You know 12-step has no scientific evidence supporting it at all, right?

Dunno if you've taken smack but I've taken it !!!! loads of times. It's unbelievably fantastic. Yet, don't crave it at all. But if I'm offered it, I'm right up for it.

By your criteria that means I'm an addict for life. By mine it just means I like drugs. But your view has no particular legitimacy over mine.

When you are arrested and charged with an offence, weather that offence results in a formal charge and a Caution or a formal charge and a court hearing and a gulity verdict, that information must be disclosed to any employer whom asks if you have ANY convictions as it could be considered as a conviction, even though a Caution may appear not to be.

By accepting a Police Caution, you are admitting the offence as to you are Cautioned with and therefore, by admitting that offence, you are guilty.

As regards turning your life around, people do.
Give the OP a break, least he has the balls to come on here and ask for advice and try and sort things out unlike most people!!

oh macman, I'm so sorry. especially when you have been trying so hard to make things better!

Besst to ask at the job centre if your claim would be sanctioned for a period of some weeks.

I would also investigate if the tagging times can be changed.

Good luck, keen to lewarn how you get on. I hope the volunteering is still going well?

This is wrong advice. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act applies http://www.nacro.org.uk/data/files/rehabilitation-of-offenders-act-1974-789.pdf is a handy summary.

Additionally, to me, a caution counts as largely worthless, because it is administered by the police whose performance targets under New Labour were on arrests and conversions to confessions or convictions - rather than on reduction of crime in an area.

OP, I'm not sure why you have been subject to such vitriol on this thread. I for one think it is admirable that you are trying to turn your life around and I wish you luck. You shouldn't have to apologise for coming onto this board and simply asking for advice.
I agree, the OP has done wrong in the past. But so far it sounds like they're being upfront and honest about their past and trying to point their life in a new direction through employment and education. And I wish them the best of luck with that.

It sounds like SarEl has a bee in their bonnet about something.

My thought too. Like being a victim of some crime and taking it out on our OP.
