is it just supermarkets you won't go to (you mentioned M&S would be ok)
BHS and Matalan as mentioned both do good ranges
have you thought of looking on Ebay
Penny-Pincher
aren't you lucky to have such a caring family£250 each from both your Ma and the inlaws has covered the cost of the unifom for you, which was a terrible amount to expect people on benefits to pay out anyway

agree with the asda comments, price isn't everything and sometimes false economy
I get mine from a mix of places, had DD age 14 trousers from Primark ladies size 8 only £8I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I've always bought my DDs trousers and skirts from Asdas, and have found them to be fine. DD1 is very skinny and cannot normally find trousers to fit (she refuses to wear skirts), but Asdas Jersey Bootcut ones fit her perfectly as they have an elasticated waist, and at £2.50, I don't mind if they get trashed. Saying that, the last pair she had, lasted until she grew out of them length-wise, so a couple of terms with numerous washes. Also the pleated skirts I buy for DD2 are very reasonable at £4, and wash up fine too.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

My 11 year old has his shirts and PE kit mostly from the M & S offer (trousers I ordered weren't big enough)
His trousers have come from Asda, they were only £5, but they don't feel like very good quality to be honest, and he's had to have 14-15 year old stuff to fit him in the waist - he's a normal sized 11 year old for heaven sake (unlike his brother, who does carry some 'puppy fat')
The rest has had to come from John Lewis, who have had to order the blazer as they have sold out - we're hoping it will be here for the start of term next week......
#3 son will be wearing the stuff he didn't outgrow last yearPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

Its Supermarkets and Primark I avoid mostly...though I've never given Matalan much thought...will have to do some research to see if they're acceptable  . I try to give local shops my business if I can - our little town centre has already lost its M&S, and been hit by the demise of Littlewoods. It has a Woolies (has anyone any experience of Woolies uniform?) but that's about it - its got to be a trip to the big city for anything else, and I imagine all of the uniform shops will be mad this week - so I'm trying to plan ahead.
Thanks everyone for suggestions.

I bought my 15 year old son six new shirts and two pairs of trousers from Tesco. £16 the lot. That'll do him till he finishes school in May! Thank goodness he didn't need a new blazer, and if he grows out of the one he's got , a work collegue gave me her sons' who was at the school last year. I can't wait till I don't have to buy it any more!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

I've got a big problem with my 11 year old daughter. She is 5ft 8 tall and takes a size 14 - 16 and needs new school uniform. Where can I get school uniform in that size? They only go up to age 16 and theres no way they will go anywhere near her. Even my 9 year old is 5ft 4 and takes age 16 or size 12 clothes. What a nightmare.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Have you tried new look black saturn? I was walking through there the other day, and noticed that they seem to be doing school uniforms in the 'adult' section. I remember the days of trying to find a school uniform, I was my current height (6ft1) when i was 12, my mother used to pound the streets trying to find me something! I always used to end up in boys cardigans....!You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....
