Excellent advice there from Coupon-mad. I'd agree with all of that. As the saying goes, softly softly catchy monkey.

It's rather like learning to drive. Most of us start out as nervous wrecks, but you'll find that your confidence increases every time you do it, until it just comes naturally and there are no nerves at all. There is definitely an 'art' to the way you deal with the staff, and you learn this over time.

I think you may have missed a point here..........the Op says he isn't a newbie at all.........just hasnt had experience of consoles.......

I think if you read his questions....they aren't about sels, or other basic points.....they are questions that could give a lot of info on the different scenarios found on the shelves......actually, questions I ask myself, when deciding "which game to try it on with"

Yes, I can see from his later post that he is not a newbie. But with that attitude I'm afraid he comes across as one! So that's where McDonag's chip on his shoulder went.....
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Anyone know if the £449 PC still scans at that price? Saw one today with a yellow SEL saying offer ends 13/09/06.

There's one in Basingstoke with the SEL still saying 17/08/06 (or something in August), they added a few SEL's without expiry dates, so I'm guessing they not changing the price.

Although you could try lifting it up to a self-scanner, I tried it twice before thinking I look at bit of twit, seeing as it still had the A4 SEL still stuck to it.

  • I just need a good pep talk perhaps but I really feel i have lost my bottle to R&R :o

The past 2 days I have been in a couple of different stores and had the opportunity to R&R but just simply didnt have the guts to go for it!
I had a really nasty bullyboy manager give me over an hours worth of abuse and interrogation about a month ago (the PSP senario) HO gave me R&R, but I was absolutley gutted that I had been treated so badly. For days afterwards I kept getting flashbacks... and I know I will never go near that store again. Then I had duty manager decline an R&R on wrongly priced meat, "because she could" was the reason she gave me.So I gave up and took a refund. My family say I'm a changed person since that first confrontation. It was always me they would turn to for help with any consumer revenge issues, now I feel cant do it. In fact to be 100% honest my stomache starts churning if I even think of R&R in any tesco..

Adrenalin rush.. not sure thats what I call it anymore... Some good solid advice to get me back on track please

    I can completely sympathise.
Take the analogy of the learning to drive which seems to be doing the rounds tonight. Yes we are all nervous when we are learners, and we all gain confidence and assurance with time and experience, but equally we end up shaking like a jelly if we have an accident, or even a near miss ! So be gentle with yourself. Don't expect to rush back with a lap-top or xbox.
I would suggest taking a bit of taxiphils advice - try out a few far flung Tescos. Where you know no-one know you and you won't feel paranoid that all the staff are keeping an eye on you. You never know it could be virgin territory, which shelves full of R&R possibilities and cs staff who have not done an R&R for Ssoooooo long, they have forgotten the store policy, and YOU will just have to be gentle with THEM, and remind them !:D

I haven't been subject to an hour of abuse, but I was spoken to by one cs in such a way as to imply I had swapped receipts/stickers and product just to rip them off.
I was meaning to take something to cs desk yesterday for R&R, but SHE was there, so I chickened out. Thought I would try tomorrow when store is busier. I will probably feel braver when I am not standing isolated, but have a neutral audience to watch fair play. Wrong sel and wrongly stickered items are still on shelf, so it SHOULD be ok tomorrow.
Trouble is, even when I am feeling I will lie low for a couple of weeks, I spot half a dozen DEFINITE r&rs, and end up convincing myself that I am being gentle with them by only buying 2 of them ;)
  • By the way, could I HUMBLY remind others that this thread is only recently back on-line after being closed due to the aggressive posts. I would be really miffed if it was closed, even temperarily, because posters cannot be POLITE and CIVIL to each other.
If you don't like what someone says, or the way they ask a question, just don't answer them. Leave it for others to answer who arn't offended.....and if I have annoyed someone with my comments, you could pm me, then it won't get the whole thread into a slanging match.
As usual, this is just my opinion, so feel free to hurl abuse and disagree, but by pm please ;)
