  • Anyone know if the £449 PC still scans at that price? Saw one today with a yellow SEL saying offer ends 13/09/06.

Just returned from an overnight trip to Calais to stock up on booze, but the amount of R+Rs we got from Tescos along the way completely dwarfed the savings we made on the boot full of French vino.

Stopped at 13 stores and got £640 worth of R+R in total. Unfortunately most of it was stuff we don't want, and getting refunds will be hard as most stores scribbled on our receipts.

The highlight was getting another full R+R of £319.93 on an Xbox (our fourth in a fortnight). Amazingly they still had the poster for Prey as Game of The Week on display (w/c 25/08/06). It was the easiest one ever - the manager came down, tried the predictable "discount is on game only" routine (yawn), we pointed at the policy on the wall, and he said "fair enough, have it on us" with a big smile and an apology.

Other highlights were 3 x 24 packs of Carling (ironic, as that's what we were going to Calais for), 2 x Vivitar digital cameras and 5 copies of Beautiful Child by Torey Hayden.

Anyway, my advice to anyone visiting another part of the UK for any reason is to grab yourself a Tesco Storefinder booklet (free from their petrol stations) which doubles up as a rather handy road atlas, and visit every store that doesn't involve a major detour. If you haven't got a sat nav it's worth investing in one for this purpose alone - it'll probably pay for itself in no time.

Was very interesting to see how CS attitudes varied dramatically across all the stores - some were complete angels and some were nasty growling bulldogs. We have a theory that stores in posher areas are far more obliging at giving R+Rs without a fight.

From a psychological point of view it feels much easier thrashing it out with staff in another part of the country as you know you're never going to see them again and couldn't give a stuff if they want to ban you from their store.

Well said Little John (way back above this post)!

Ole1973 you must be careful how you approach this R&R lark. I agree with others, newbies should start off small, get used to saying 'I think I've been overcharged' convincingly and confidently at CS.

When I did my first one some months ago (on something small like meat) I was shaking. Now I don't, I relax and think that I know my case, I know the policy and I know when to walk away.

If you start shaking and the adenaline starts rushing when you are at CS you will - at best - look like a p!llock, or - at worst - you will get into an argument because the staff will think you are scamming. Such body-language can look the same as a shoplifter, no offence but you need to be sure that you do not come across like this b4 you go for anything 'big'.

Other newbies like RoyT need to be careful with your approach or you will get banned and HO will not allow your R&R anyway. Softly, softly should be the approach, you want to be seen as just a customer who has been overcharged, not an MSEer who has gone out looking and wants to argue about it.

Ole1973 it is not a matter of being 'definitely entitled' to something, you sound as if you want us to confirm where Tesco HAS to oblige, TBH they don't, they could see you in court over it if they wanted to. But in practice they almost always R&R (for me anyway), and should R&R in clearcut cases because of their policy and the implications on them (by way of bad publicity and huge fines) if they didn't follow trading laws to the letter. That's why so many are now getting their xboxes authorised by HO.

RoyT, the idea of saying to HO that you know others have had an xbox refund (and naming branches that have coughed up) is a huge no-no! McDonag was right. You need to avoid looking as if you know all the terminology, if I was you I wouldn't even mention other cases, a 'normal' customer would not know about them.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • I just need a good pep talk perhaps but I really feel i have lost my bottle to R&R :o

The past 2 days I have been in a couple of different stores and had the opportunity to R&R but just simply didnt have the guts to go for it!
I had a really nasty bullyboy manager give me over an hours worth of abuse and interrogation about a month ago (the PSP senario) HO gave me R&R, but I was absolutley gutted that I had been treated so badly. For days afterwards I kept getting flashbacks... and I know I will never go near that store again. Then I had duty manager decline an R&R on wrongly priced meat, "because she could" was the reason she gave me.So I gave up and took a refund. My family say I'm a changed person since that first confrontation. It was always me they would turn to for help with any consumer revenge issues, now I feel cant do it. In fact to be 100% honest my stomache starts churning if I even think of R&R in any tesco..

Adrenalin rush.. not sure thats what I call it anymore... Some good solid advice to get me back on track please

Any Sat Nav systems to R&R?....
:happylove !!NEW AND JUST LEARNING!! :happylove
  • That doesn't surprise me. You should see the rodent traps in the warehouses in most supermarkets. They all have rodent problems. However, most of them keep on top of the issue.

and the rest are sent to deal with RnRers...........
