  • Sorry but you are wrong, to just get a balance you only need a clubcard number and postcode. You need a password to access an online account! But you can also check the balance of any normal plastic clubcard balance that is not registered with Tesco.com , with just the postcode and clubcard number.

    Would you like the instructions???

( whoops - slow at posting - was actually asking the poster above not Biglugs)

If you annoy them enough by persistent R&Ring they will try to take your Clubcard off you and almost certainly ban you from their store.

In an earlier post I did suggest that when purposely setting out to get a high value R&R you might want to not use your Clubcard for just the reason being discussed above - to stop them tracking you down.
You can't be tracked down by your clubcard! Tesco has the right to take the CC off you, as it's their property. Individual stores have the right to ban whomever they want, as it is private property. However, only certain people have access to the clubcard database. These people do not work in the stores.

I suggest you read the very last sentence of the post you've just replied to. I think you're becoming paranoid.

  • No. Pure fantasy.

Sorry no offence, but I knew I had read a lot more about the info that Tesco Clubcard can gather and hold somewhere.... which is why I considered it a possible option.

The little barcode at the bottom of the reciept details a transaction number. This transaction number can recall the entire list of items you bought, points awarded and even how you paid and the payment cards details. We could recall transactions going back weeks in store if we had suspicious returns etc.

They have to type in the date, store number, transaction amount IIRC (A few years since i did it) as well as the scan.

Dont understimate the power of the information they gain from Clubcard and how wombled reciepts link things back to you.

Also a very interesting read about the power of clubard...

Hi all, a little advice needed please, i just this minute bought a 360 with game of the week, the sign read 'buy a 360 and game of the week and save 20 quid'

I was charged 240 instead of 220 so i pointed it out and said i was entitled to a full refund, they claimed the 20 quid was off the game and offered me the game for free, i refused and said i bought a bundle and the sign doesnt claim its 20 quid off the game.

Anyway, after umming and arring she sent me on my way with the 360 and told meto phone head office in the morning

Will i get a full refund, is there anything i can quote, and what should i be saying to head office

Ohh I forgot I was on MSE. I do object to being called paranoid you know. I am not. That post wasn't there when I posted... :D Go on you know you want to call me slow now..:p

I'm not saying that anyone can get anyone elses personal details I am saying that you can check a balance with just a postcode and clubcard number. I'm a bit slow in posting I was actually asking you. Would you like to reread my post 332 as well???

Be polite but firm, state that you bought something because of the offer and they didn't give you it, tell them one of the reasons you shop in Tesco is because of their promise to never overcharge, and tell them you would like a full refund and return - as they promise shoppers.
If they refuse then ask to speak to someone more senior.
If they refuse then tell them you think what they've done to you is misleading and you will call them back after you've spoken to your Trading Standards Officer.

Phone Trading Standards first and get their advice. Tesco are in the wrong though there is a get-out if they remove the incorrect price label "at the earliest opportunity".

Good luck and make a note of your points before you call them. Some of them are complete c***s so keep cool and keep it logical. If you make it simple then the guy on the other end will find it difficult to argue.

    :D :T :D :T :D
  • Thanks for your help, i can but try, seems clear to me they are in the wrong but whether theyll see it that way, i see people are increasingly getting problems with xbox 360 purchases and getting refunds, what do you think my chances are?

    2 points,

Madwelshman, do you know that Constantine is a Tesco Manager, it doesn't seem you know this in your post telling him about Clubcard...?

Taxiphil, I wonder if it is possible that the Store manager has been having a major discussion about you with Tesco HO? I wonder if HO tipped him off to have a look on MSE and find your posts, maybe they were discussing if you may have been trying to scam them (I am not saying you were at all BTW).

Reading between the lines I think this may have been what has happened, someone at HO may have looked up all the info they could find on you, including your Clubcard details, to try to get out of the R&R. When they could not find anything tangible they have obviously decided they have to give you the R&R but decided to try to intimidate you so you may be put off a hat-trick of xboxes?

If this has happened then HO have gone against the DPA, IMHO. If I were you I would call the Store manager and ask him how he knew your Clubcard balance, see what he says first.
