He'll definitely be reading this, I have no doubt about that. He was very familiar indeed with this forum. Shame he couldn't have put so much diligence and effort into ensuring the posters in his store were correct.

Don't worry, I'll be making formal complaints to 3 bodies: the Advertising Standards Authority (re. the "Our Promise" poster being misleading), Trading Standards (re. criminal offences committed by displaying misleading price indications) and the Information Commissioner (re. misuse of my personal Clubcard information under the Data Protection Act).

Taxiphil - before you make yourself look like an idiot, did you use your clubcard when buying the Xbox? Did the manager see the receipt? If so, there's the answer as to how he knew your balance. No DPA rules broken. If he thinks yours is bad, he should see mine...I'm just shy of 10K points (and that's after the July payout!).

Hi all, a little advice needed please, i just this minute bought a 360 with game of the week, the sign read 'buy a 360 and game of the week and save 20 quid'

I was charged 240 instead of 220 so i pointed it out and said i was entitled to a full refund, they claimed the 20 quid was off the game and offered me the game for free, i refused and said i bought a bundle and the sign doesnt claim its 20 quid off the game.

Anyway, after umming and arring she sent me on my way with the 360 and told meto phone head office in the morning

Will i get a full refund, is there anything i can quote, and what should i be saying to head office

    Thanks for your help

    Gary
Absolute gobsh*te the offer is for the package, the discount only applies when the purchases are combined thus price relates to the combined package not either one of the items purchased.

He never saw my receipt, he asked a lady on the CS desk to process the refund and it was only her who saw my receipt, and he already knew about my Clubcard account at that point as he'd already questioned me about it.

It's not looking good for him, is it?
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

Are you sure he didn't see it when you initially bought the Xbox? Most of the time, when a Manager is called, he will look at the receipt. He does not have access to the CC database. He could not possibily have got your balance from there.

The clubcard balance is clearly displayed on the receipt if the clubcard was used for the purchase, if not then that's a different ballgame.

I agree. Zero chance of getting a look at the database, for any reason.

    I am not sure

That's why I asked Phil if he used it. Judging by his response, I assume he did. He won't stand a chance against the Manager over that, as the manager will claim that he saw the details on the receipt. Fact is, the Manager does not have access to the clubcard database. Tesco's Data Controller has a legal duty under the DPA to protect all information stored on the clubcard database, including limiting access to it and the uses of the information held on it.

Yes, I did use my Clubcard to pay for the Xbox.

I'm 100% positive he's never seen my receipt. I'd never met the bloke before this evening. He wasn't on duty when I originally bought the Xbox on Saturday, and when I went in on Sunday to speak to him he wasn't there either.

The only possibility is that one of the other staff saw my receipt on Saturday and made a mental note of my Clubcard balance, and then told the manager.
