If they are offering to refund your money onto a giftcard, they are obviously admitting they were wrong. Stand your ground and as Ben500 said, refuse the offer and state that you will only accept your money back.

The refund should be in the payment method used. What reason have they given for refunding to a gift card rather than the payment method originally used?

Well, we're still at loggerheads over the £20 discount not coming off. They say the discount only applied to the game, and hence I'm only entitled to an R+R on the game, and I say this is complete and utter nonsense - the discount was a multisave which was conditional on both the game and the Xbox being purchased.

So they're describing the £320 giftcard as a compromise as a "gesture of goodwill", even though it's obviously the manager trying to disguise a £320 loss to the company to protect his own back.

I will stand my ground and demand a refund to my Switch card. Thanks for your support everyone.

Yes, but not the same loss as giving cash back, is it? The theory is (actually, tha facts are, blow the theory  ) that he will HAVE to spend the £320 in Tesco (maybe even that store?) and you don't exactly sell your products at cost price, unless I'm mightly mistaken.
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

    Precisely.

Getting back to my original question, Constantine, what would you do if a customer asked for a refund on £320 of goods? Would you check the receipt to see if they paid by giftcard, and if so, would you only credit the refund back onto another giftcard?

Yep, I get all that. Appreciate thet the £ are still going to end up in Tesco. But in order to give the giftcard away, its still going to show as a refund when the transaction is carried out.
