I have to agree, Constantine you are a credit to the forum and a credit to Tesco at the same time which is hard to pull off sometimes I am sure.
However, to claim that you are not a money saving expert when surely you must have cut a few losses due to your interest in this subject, its obvious, you are, just one of us.
With a slightly different way of achieving your goal granted
On a side note, thinking about the whole subject in an armchair economist fashion...
If it is true as it used to be, that Tesco is overpriced on average by 3 or 4% then surely it means that as long as their losses due to R&R do not reach 3% then they are making the right decision offering it.
It is probably worth reminding people that read this thread that they DO overcharge (or else we would not have this thread) and the fact that they have had to explain themselves to several watchdogs over the years AND have always used the R&R policy as a defense in a sort of "get out of jail" way. Surely getting rid of the R&R or even trying to shove clauses in is going to open the doors to all sort of horrible law suits from those watchdogs.0 -
I've posted the info on the misprices thread but I had a couple of interesting things happen tonight.
The first was finding Organic Skinless Chicken Breasts at £13.99kg on the pack but with "flashed" offer stickers stating it was £1.80 off at £11.19 kg when it clearly wasn't!
This was very naughty and the meat manager agreed!
Also got Pork and Cadbury Ice Cream bars.
She authorised a £5 gift voucher for my time and trouble!
£23.19 refunded and a gift voucher. They are getting soft!Keep SmilingSite member number 24

Oh Constantine, I agree with you whole heartedly, but then I can think of a lot of other ways our company and many others I am sure also waste money. The problem you have is that in life you have the go getters and the stand still and let life pass you by types.
I am definately a go getter and always rise to a challenge, and so are most of my colleagues, which is why we always like to find out when we will be test shopped, you could argue that our company employs people with initiative and definately brilliant problem solving skills, and as to benefiting our customers, I like to think that the majority of my customers are intelligent human beings and as such know and expect a certain standard of customer service on any day of the week, if they do not receive this from any member of staff be it myself or another member of staff, then I hope and assume that they would complain appropiately. And this leads me back to Tesco policy, and what this is all about, the R+R policy. It is in my eyes very simple, the policy is displayed for all to see and if you have definately been overcharged there should not even be a whisper of discrepancy from any member of staff be it Manager or CS. This is Tesco Customer Policy. Overcharged = Refunded and Retained. As I said very simple really.0 -

Dont care if they are free, you are welcome to them. What a disgusting combination :eek:Who or what was I before you came in to my life

Don't feel so undercover now!
I would agree though that I think chains that want real value from their mystery shoppers would keep things top secret so maybe a good point for Tescos.
Perhaps we should start a mystery shop and shopped thread to compare sides! Have not ventured into moneysaver arms yet so maybe this would do - but not at this time!0 -

If you do not mind sharing, who is it you work for?kellywelly wrote:It is in my eyes very simple, the policy is displayed for all to see and if you have definately been overcharged there should not even be a whisper of discrepancy from any member of staff be it Manager or CS. Common misconception - it is not Refund and Retain, it is Refund and Replace.
The policy was originally introduced to develope confidence in own-label products. If you were not happy with your Tesco whatever or found it not as absorbant as your usual brand, you got your money back and a replacement. From there is has grown to what it is today.
There are occasions - from time to time - when customers are wrong. There are also occasions - also from time to time - when customers try to scam. (eg they may plant out-of-date leaflets in a store to gain an advantage). Cue indignant post on mse, with zero opportunity for us to hear the other perspective.

Of course I don't mind you asking but I am not telling, that would spoil it for all the Mystery Shoppers!
I think I said when you have definately been overcharged. And as stated earlier please be careful what you accuse customers of as you could be held open to defamation or slander charges.
I guarantee you that if anyone ever accused myself a member of my family or a friend of something underhanded then that is the action of recourse I would take, and obviously this charge would not be layed directly at Tesco's feet but at the member of staff that accused me.
Would Tesco provide a member of staff with Legal Defence should this ever happen?0
