Whilst I'm sure that Constantine's store are on the ball with their prices (and I'm sure him being active on here has a LOT to do with it, lol), I'm pretty sure that of those 21,998 customers in the week that DIDN'T trouble the CS desk for an R&R, SOME will have been overcharged. And when we have had video games stickered up at £14.94 going through at £29.99 and ones stickered up at £19.99 and going through at £35.24, it doesn't take Einstein to work out that R&R probably evens itself out (in fact, I would be most surprised if Constantine's store didn't come out significantly better off that particular week!).
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

Could anyone answer a quick question for me? Constantine? Are you there?

As you might know from my post last night, the store manager is now offering me an R+R on the Xbox, but only in the form of a giftcard to the value of £320, not cash. I'm not particularly happy about this as the policy says "we will refund your money" but in order to avoid more arguments and delays, would I be able to spend the giftcard on another Xbox and game (for example) and then return them with the receipt for a cash refund? Or do they look at the receipt and refuse to give a refund if I've paid by giftcard?

    Hi Taxiphil,

Just thinking about this, you could use the gift card to buy a load of the freeview boxes that come with 500 extra points, aren't they about £35 each?
Ten of these will give you 5000 points and you could sell the boxes and the vouchers on eBay and try to get your money back that way.

Clubcard points are selling for over double their worth at the mo. ie 5000 points equals £50 x 2. £100 for the points and over £22 each for the boxes.

There was a stereo system going with 999 points recently in my T's as well.

Just a suggestion as a last resort really.

Hope you get your money back.

  • When a shop refunds you, policy is always to refund in the manner you paid - if you paid by CC they have to refund to CC and if you pay cash they give cash back.

I'm not sure if their is legislation covering this but every shop I've eben to has been very strict about refund procedure.

Most shops if you pay with vouchers refund you with vouchers. My guess is they would do this here. They obviously want you to spend the money in Tesco's. I think I would find argue this one, unless of course you go in to collect the cash card without your original receipt and then you could return the xbox with that. No entirely ethical but nor is the stipulation they are putting on your refund.

Thanks mcdonag. Good idea, I know the offers you're referring to but I think they expired a couple of days ago. Still, definitely worth holding out as there's bound to be another 1000 points on a vacuum cleaner or something like that just around the corner. Plus I'd get the 5p off a litre of petrol voucher!

I'm just a bit gutted as I was a chump and put the Xbox on my Switch card instead of my credit card, so the lack of an R+R is leaving me pretty broke!

I always pay with my debit card and for every r&r I have had they've always refunded me the cash, even when I've offered my card to them.

Has anyone had CS refuse an R&R by saying the SEL is invalid? I found an upside down mis priced loose large yellow price label next to a Tesco Finest Topside joint and claimed R&R but the genuinely nice CS said the SEL was missing. I kept the joint and put it down to experience but now wonder if I was was being too soft on Tesco. So when is a Shelf Label not an SEL?

If the SEL is advertising the price, whether upside down or not shouldn't matter. I know my store tend to stick the SEL's on their heads when the price is going to change. I presume to make it easier for them know which ones need doing. As a customer it should make no difference.
I think they have sold you a line. How can the SEL be missing if you saw it upside down?

The refund should be in the payment method used. What reason have they given for refunding to a gift card rather than the payment method originally used?

Simple reject the offer as unacceptable.
