  • Incidentally, the PSP base unit wasn't included in the GOTW offer a while back, too. I remember someone on here posting that they'd been refused an R&R because the manager said the base pack wasn't a console! This was a good two to three weeks ago.

That was I, I'm the guilty one.
Vodaphone and Vigrin handsets save £20 when bought with £20 airtime.
In case this offer was repeated in the future....
Would it discount by buying the phone and 2 x £10 top-ups in the same transaction ? Still £20 airtime
    Just a thought ;)

It could be worth a try but how would you explain it to CS the POS said buy a £20 top up not 2x£10, they are using any which way they can to get out of r+r's doing that just gives them a really easy one "you didnt buy a £20 top up" I think you will be blue in the face before they agree to that one.

    Bit worried.

I have had sh*tloads of r&rs recently..some big ones and little ones. I use my Tesco credit card. Do they have the right to look at my account and once they've refunded anything can they stop the payment? and proscute me?? currently fight again a £300 r&r so bit worried they will check the credit card and realise what ive been up to!!

No, why would they be able to? you're just taking them up on one of the terms of their agreement with you. (the R&R process)

Credit cards are ususaly provided by another company (Visa, Mastercard ect)the only thing tesco have to do would be the clubcard points scheme I expect they could see you hav bought 3 xboxes or whatever and it would look strange but they wouldnt see the xboxes refunded in the club card points.

I just looked back at the pic someone posted of that offer poster, it says "when you buy £20 airtime" not "A £20 top up"

    In my book 2 £10 vouchers = £20 airtime

Could possibly get them on the wording!
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

I just tried to phone HQ and they actually have 2 people dedicated to the PSP issue. I was on hold for 15 minutes and then they said they'd call me back!

Dont worry, I rang early this morning and they told me the same thing. Had a call back just now to say the refund for my brother is waiting at the store for him. Think they are just taking time to get everyone done.
We took on Mr T and we won:D

Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now

Exact same. CS at first refused to do anything, claiming that this sort of decision is 100% down to the store and there was nothing they could do. After a little pushing he apologised and said he'd refer me to the specialist psp team.
  • Excellent, cheers guys. I'm still waiting for my call back :)

Can you post on here when you pick up the refunds to let me know if the store kicks up a fuss when you go back?

I'd thank both of you, but as i said previously it just wont work on this pc for some reason :(

So its ok for tescos to lie about their prices but not for me to lie about my address?
I never said it was OK for Tesco's to lie about their prices. In fact the worst thing to come out of this thread is the number of lies being told every day by Tesco staff.
But, if they've seen your Clubcard, they'll know your name and address anyway.
    Can I help?
  • taxphil, I think I have worked it out.

First off people act differently when they are doing something wrong. Sometimes it is only weak signs sometimes you know for certain they are up to something. I found this in a past job were I would just go about my daily buisness and suddenly there they were, all this signals saying "I want to be away from you ASAP".

The managers and CS staff are trained to try to get people off R&R, they are trained to do it, perhaps not with HO blessing but thats beside the point. They are still trained to do it. Actually I think I will note something about this later.

So there is the scene, staff trying to get off without R&R and customers who are acting like they are doing something wrong. In reality of course the customer has nothing to fear, is doing nothing wrong and has all the rights to enter a shop and ask for a price promise deal as any other customer. Likewise the manager has no choice no matter what HO says, he is binded by a worded contract (promise board) which is part of the deal when you shop their.

Now here is the problem, it is called Asymmetric Information. You see, Tesco HO really does not have the slightest clue which of there staff are better than others. There is just to many of them and even in a small firm it is difficult to spot the high achievers over those that just do enough. One way to do is to offer pay rewards in the form of a bonus. How this works is the company offers rewards for achieving and also removes rewards for not achieving in other areas.

However, it appears Tesco have fallen in to the ENRON trap. This is where part of the bonus is dependant on a figure which the managers can try to manipulate. So in this case Tesco is offering rewards to its managers if they improve the losses of the store. What you end up with is this, Tesco policy, one of the very things the store manager is there to enforce, is actually scraped by the store manager where possible.

Instead of it being no quibble "thank you for waiting, we are very sorry" you get "we are not giving you your money, get out of my store and I am reporting you to my mates". This is NOT what Tesco intended when it decided to give a bonus to its managers based on in store losses.

When ever you are refused an R&R in store it is probably a good idea to Email Sir Terry and tell him straight that the bonus scheme that is tied to reducing instore losses is being abused by a certain manager. Inform him that you feel that this manager is commiting fraud by falsely improving his instore losses by removing tesco national policy. Imform him that you feel it would be wrong for Tesco to pay the manager his bonus as in your opinion the manager is cooking the books by refusing refunds and banning people who are likely to ask for them.

Thats what I am going to do everytime a manager says I can not have an R&R anyway, report him to Sir Terry for cooking his books on in store losses. ENRON would never have happened if they had not given bonuses for the wrong things.
