I've been trying to get on, on and off, for the last couple of days and just now have but there don't seem to be anywhere near as many of the less expensive ones in stock? I had been deciding between a designer pair or just going for the less expensive option, which I opted for to save money, but now when I have gotten on to the site there don't seem to be any where near as many lines available? Is it just me?
Edit: I was just asking an adviser online and it cut me off to show the server problem page again. So now I can't get on again.0 -
Glasses Direct don't seem to offer UV coating unless you go for top of the range lenses. This is £55 extra. (You can get the UV coating on sunglasses for only £5 extra, but this is not an option for clear lenses.) Personally, I try to keep as much UV out of my eyes as possible, so I was rather disappointed by this.0

[STRIKE]Sorry, that's a mistake on the site which I'll get corrected. The £20 silver package includes UV-block too.[/STRIKE]
*UPDATE* 27/07/2010 Sorry, this is wrong, the UV isn't included in the silver package. I'm sorry for getting the wrong information.
We put UV with sunglasses by default as the darker tint means the pupil of your eye opens up wider and can let in more UV light. This is less of an issue with clear lenses as you shouldn't be letting in more light than you would be than if you weren't wearing glasses at all.
If you do want a UV coating applied to the standard lenses then you can arrange for that by ordering over the phone with one of our Dispensing Opticians.“Official Company Representative

I'm really sorry to hear you're having ongoing problems accessing the site. We've made some progress today however site traffic has still been extremely high.
We haven't remove any products from the website and have been constantly updating the availability (as we have frames that come back in from Home Trial each day). Rest assured we'll do all we can to ensure you can find a pair (or pairs) you like from our huge range.“Official Company Representative

I've just tried again a few times and each time after eventually getting on it has cut me off with the server message when I started to look at glasses. More than happy to be patient, I just worry there won't be anything I like in stock left. (It's fairly chunky rectangular frames I am looking for in an ideal world.) Not sure if it is my imagination but there seemed less £39 glasses available generally in the short times I have been able to get on, but I could be wrong as I get cut off pretty quickly before being able to go through them properly. Will keep trying. I like a few more expensive lines, one pair designer range which are still a good price and one in the £59 range, although I'd prefer to go for the less expensive lines if possible. Will keep trying. Thanks.0

Well this didnt work for me at all. I purchased the groupon. Then I went to glasses direct and got the two pairs I wanted in the basket. They were both £39 then one had a £10 tint. The basket automatically took off the free pair so left a total of £52.95 to pay. Excellent so far. Then I added in the groupon coupon. It then took off the £39 but also removed the second pair discount so it was still £52.95 to pay. It seems the free second pair is classed as a discount and so is the groupon and you can only have one discount per order so you cannot ''Get Two pairs of prescription glasses for £13
Combine the Groupon voucher with Glasses Direct's buy one get one free offer and use it on its £39 glasses range and you can effectively get two pairs of glasses for £9 plus £3.95 postage.'' as it says on this site.
Feel like I have wasted my £9 and am very dissapointed :-{ Hope others have better luck

I got 2 pairs earlier today 1 x glasses and 1 x glasses with uv tint for £23.95 (+ £9 groupon charge) cant really say fairer than that! and I have ordered before from here and prescription and fit were great. Website was slow as today........ but hey this is a popular deal.
Looking back through these comments I am wondering why all the 'haters' are newbies....mmmh :cool:0 -
Nedmundo,
The way I see it is that you are accepting responsibilitly for this if you want to buy cheap glasses on-line.
If you don't want to accept responsibility then go to a high st (or back street) optician and get it done by a professional.
Obviously it would be quite logical to expect to have to pay a little more for this as these people need a street presence which cost money.
So you get what you pay for.
Personally I like to try glasses on and have them fitted professionally and have somewhere to go when they need adjustment (for free), but people can make their own choice about that.
I have an out of town outlet near me which doesn't have a high st presence and doesn't charge high st prices.
However you need a car to get there so it's horses for course and you get what you pay for etc. etc.
These companies offer a great choice for people, but you have to be aware of the limitations of their service.
I couldn't have put it better myself! Interesting that GD don't want to comment on their ploy to transfer legal responsibility - I'm getting a feeling of deja-vu!Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.
