It seems you can measure your PD measurement yourself.

It does not look that complicated. This appears to me like a case of high street opticians wanting to protect their market when they refuse to give this measurement out.

I used this method when I last ordered from glasses direct and they were perfect. I used method 2 and got a freind to do it at work - we work to microns so I thought my colleague would be quite capable and he was :)

I've just ordered some Harveys that were out of stock earlier in the mad rush and soms Eustice - one with silver pack one with bronze. I also get 50% back at work of any optical costs :j
I am firmly across the line. I won't impose my values on you if you keep away from mine.

People could be a bit patient here. The site fell over due to demand. Earlier I was irate, but then I realised there are more important things in life to get irate over. ;)
And the conspiracy theories are just ridiculous. Srsly.

I understand that this has been a popular deal! My DH has been trying since 2 pm yesterday to get glasses ordered for both of us, but hasn't yet managed to place an order.

I was tasked with getting up early and the Glasses Direct website isn't available just now as they're "Boosting their servers" due to the very high visitor volume they're experiencing at the moment. :(

We're both spec wearers, so looking forward to getting new ones - sometime!

Yippee! At last managed to get on the GD website and this time managed to get through to the payments page. Great deal - thanks MSE for information via weekly email. Saved me money, made prescription sunnies affordable and getting a second pair of specs for free.:j:j:j:j

    Oh, and cashback too!

Well, it's not working again now. Perhaps the early birds got in there and now the server's crashed. Again. Has the deadline has been extended?

By getting the Optician (Optometrist) to issue the PD, aren't you transfering the responsibility of the dispensing from yourselves (or your customer) back onto ourselves?

Seems a bit unfair to be responsible for dispensing out of our control - wouldn't you agree?
    Nedmundo,

The way I see it is that you are accepting responsibilitly for this if you want to buy cheap glasses on-line.

If you don't want to accept responsibility then go to a high st (or back street) optician and get it done by a professional.
Obviously it would be quite logical to expect to have to pay a little more for this as these people need a street presence which cost money.

So you get what you pay for.

Personally I like to try glasses on and have them fitted professionally and have somewhere to go when they need adjustment (for free), but people can make their own choice about that.

I have an out of town outlet near me which doesn't have a high st presence and doesn't charge high st prices.
However you need a car to get there so it's horses for course and you get what you pay for etc. etc.

These companies offer a great choice for people, but you have to be aware of the limitations of their service.

website still down at the moment, been trying since 9am. hopefully will come up soon
  • I bought this voucher, and too was frustrated yesterday at not being able to get on the site. What frustrated me even more is that when I could eventually get on, everything I had liked was sold out, so clearly other people could order! I rang them up, spoke to a very nice and helpful lady, who informed that the voucher is purely a voucher with a £39 value. You can order cheaper or more expensive frames, and receive a £39 discount (as well as the cheapest pair free) I actually ordered 2 pairs from the £34 range. You still have to pay postage.

I actually thought this was quite clear in the post no? I bought my glasses at around £80 with upgraded lenses and then received £39 off.

As for the site issues, I had no problem at 11.30pm when everyone was in bed. :rotfl:
