I open my account this morning by phone. I asked before opening the account if i would get the £20 and was asked for to quote the reference and then I would get the £20. I send my £1 cheque off this morning. All calls are taped. Can I ask for the call to be trace and listen to by one off their managers? or is this just an example of banks saying and doing what they want. I feel very let down and do not know whether I can trust what any financally customer service team member says.

if it was the sales department you rang then yes calls are taped, you should ask on the phone before you say anymore when you ring :)
  • I applied today and set up a Direct Debit as I m pretty unhappy with my CTFs performance and had decided to top them up with a savings account. The £20 made their account a favourable option with a competitive interest rate, but if they dont want my investment I ll find a bank that does. It should have advised on applicaion that they would not honour the offer.

Well I applied yesterday and sent my cheque today. I shall be quite irritated if they don't honour this they should know that codes are often circulated on the internet and if they don't want to honour it they should have something in place at the point of application. Well if they don't I shall simply close the account and add them to my personal blacklist.

After reading about the excitement this offer is creating it is important to set the record straight in order to avoid disappointment.
This offer is STRICTLY limited to the addressee only, or members of the household at which the addressee lives. If someone not meeting these conditions uses the promotion code the first they will learn that they haven’t qualified is after we check their name and address back with our original mailing list and the £20 credit does not appear on their new account statement.

    Hi folks,

Sadly, ING have told us that they won't be paying out the £20 unless applicants fulfil all criteria, which include having been sent the offer directly.

We have written a news article on this: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/banking/2010/07/savers-to-miss-out-on-20-bonus

Someone is going to get fired.

Yes a significant amount on here are just after the £20, another possible bigger portion would of become customers. Not only would this put them off, chances are by mentioning that ING Direct went back on their offer to their friends and family will instantly put them off. We all know bad word of mouth skips out the finer details of the reason the offer was refused.

My wife and I opened an account each last night paid the £1's and set up DD's for £10 a month to save - I assume I can close it and they will refund our £1's?

Naturally: you just opened an instant access savings account without any restrictions- you can close it and get back your balance plus any closing interest whenever you want...

I have enquired tonight and they will allow people to join.Ask to speak to a duty-manager if need be .They mat try to fob you off but if you persist they will grant you consent .I explained that their selective invites were by defintion discriminatory and likely to alienae those excluded-it seemed to work John

So, a waste of time then?

Matey on the helpline wanted me to open a new bank account in order to start a savings account with them.....

Also just been notified of the search on my credit file, identification only so I don't think it is recorded.

Before everyone gets too despondent this is NOT the first time ING have stated that a promotional offer Is only for the household which received the leaflet/E-mail drop.
I opened an ING account a couple of years ago along with dozens of others after finding that offer here on MSE. That promotion was also for intended recipients only apparently.

I got my £50 (more back then) just as many others here did !

You can guarantee there will be uproar because people tried to take advantage of a lucky freebie and it didn't happen.

Already screams of "I'll never use them again" (like you would have anyway?) and "I'll tell all my friends and family never to use them" (like you would have anyway) and "you can never trust a bank again" (could you in the first place?) are being echoed around the land.

Others may just say "oh well, some you lose, some you don't"

Soon everyone will start using "Littlewoods Clauses" in their offers if people keep getting hysterical!
