The fact that he has deleted all his incoming and outgoing messages would worry me, after finding that message, that would sound to me as if he was hiding stuff.

As I see it, he has said something to her via text, deleted all his messages (that is the part which I woudl see as suspicious) then he has came home drunk, fallen asleep and she sent this text in reply.

To be fair though, depending on the phone, I will either delete all of my outgoing messages or I will set the phone up not to save outgoing messages. I don't consider this suspicious behaviour and my girlfriend certainly has nothing she need to be worrying about. I know what I said because I was the one who said it hence I don't need to clutter up my phone with old, outgoing messages that I'll never read again anyway.

As for the text in the OP, it isn't really indicative of an affair. As others have pointed out, the lady in question appears to be shying away from something, which could be an affair. Perhaps the husband, in a drunken state, was questioning his marriage and asking this woman for advice - not the most honourable of things to do but people do stupid stuff when they've had a few. Some people get moody, depressed and start thinking the worst of everything... is it not possible that the husband merely had such an episode, questioned the state of his marriage and the woman's response that she doesn't want to cause any problems is merely based on the fact she doesn't feel that she should be giving advice?

I have to be honest, people don't just read the private conversations of their partners without there already being an air of suspicion and said partners can pick up on the distrust which may create something quite destructive within a relationship.

Now that you are at this point, really, you can be honest to him and admit you read his phone messages and then ask him to be honest with you in return regarding what this message means, or you can let this destroy your relationship which it will do while elements of doubt are allowed to fester in your mind.

I don't normally delete my texts but every now and then my phone says "inbox full" and I delete all my inbox and all my sent items.
So the next text received wouldn't have a sent one in my phone to match up.

    doesn't mean I'm cheating though.

I'm highly suspicous Honey, you have to sit him down, and come out with it...

He may feel relieved, at your knowing he's almost made a fool of your marraige, or you may hear something you don't want to hear.. it could be something or nothing, either way you need to know now.. for your own mental health.

    good luck

If this woman dislikes him so much, theres a possibility that she has stolen your OH's number from someone elses phone, and sent the message out of pure spite to cause trouble.

I fully expect 'Op Deny' to be in force when you ask.

The blame will too much beer/shots/toast/water that has made him forget what he did last night, he could remember to 10-11pm then it must of been the shots with Joe/Simon/Andy/Trev* (delete as required).
