I sincerely hope that was on a DC or M/Way. Any stunt like accelerating or closing up a gap that forces an overtaker to remain on the wrong side of the road for longer than they had planned should be prosecuted for attempted murder IMO.

It's not just the overtaker that suffers for it either, it's the poor sod coming the other way, perhaps on a motorbike, that they hit because some w⚓ got offended by being overtaken and decided to teach them a lesson.

Sorry, I don't condone it but why should someone who isn't taking a risk be forced to jam on the brakes at 70 to let another car back in?

I hate people who push, I personally have boxed a number of people off who have tried to overtake me, on a normal road too!

I will however add, I have never made anyone stay on the wrong side of the road before I am shot at.

But if I'm waiting in traffic, get to the junction and as I pull out someone whips down the other lane and tries to push in front of me, I will, always, box that car off by braking heavily, and most of the time the cars behind will continue that boxing trick by driving right up behind each other, as not to allow the little sod push!

    I didn't say that.

You should carry on as you were, if the overtaker hasn't got enough room to finish overtaking then that's entirely their fault.

If, however, you choose to be a !!!! about it and speed up, forcing them to stay out for longer then IMO you should be held accountable for any accident that results.

I've seen it happen too many times, had it happen to me a few times too, makes a perfectly safe manoeuvre with plenty of margin for error built in suddenly become a risky, seat of the pants manoeuvre that puts innocent lives at risk.

It's forced me to develop the stealth overtake, where you give no indication that you plan to overtake and ensure that you have a massive speed differential before you even cross the white line, just to defend against the growing number of idiots who think that speeding up is acceptable behaviour, and that shouldn't be necessary as normally it is better if as many people as possible know what your intentions are.

I agree with you Lum, I wasn't disagreeing at all, what you explain is right however never try pushing in front of me as I simply box you off, no one likes waiting but specially someone who hasn't waited whipping past you!

You're talking about things like people abusing a right turn only lane to go straight ahead, yes?

Boxing that sort of person in, typically in a hatched area before a traffic island is pretty much fine. It's a bit naughty but usually no-one is put at risk by it.

I did once see an accident happen in London because of this. I was in my good car and this guy is trying to line up his wingmirror with mine and move over as if it tap it, keeping no more than an inch away. Trying to intimidate me into letting him in.

Of course I just press the button to fold my mirrors in, which means he has to start again carefully lining up his mirror with mine, which he'd just about finished doing when he crashed into the bollard on the traffic island.

Yes, just that, pi**es me right off!

Yes, I know it can be a little risky.
The last person I did box of who attempted to push from the left lane to the right (I was in the right) he sped up, tried to push in, but I am fully aware now and know the signs of someone about to attempt such a move, I simply speed up, faster than there speed and keep it just over matched to prevent them getting in front.

Last time I did it, the guy thought coming inches from my front wing would make me stop, I simply sped up and kept him out, needless to say I had the 'V's' but he didn't get anywhere faster!

That's the thing I didn't do anything special to this guy, he'd just used the right turn lane, gone straight on into a hatched area and tried to intimidate me into letting him in before the island, apart from folding in the mirror I made no reaction to his driving at all. Not my problem he wasn't watching where he was going.

    His own fault.

What makes me really chuckle is when you get a little car, like a Fiesta or Metro trying to overtake a car with a maximum speed of 160 MPH :rotfl:

I'm sorry, but I don't wait for 20 minutes for someone to whiz past me and not wait, I don't mind letting people who are genuinely in the wrong lane, you know them as they go slow, the ones pushing are doing speed.

Well done for standing your ground, many don't as risky but well worth it!

If that's how you drive you're an accident waiting to happen.Eventually you will meet someone who is as stubborn as you and you will collide.
Noone likes people pushing into queues but what you are doing is dangerous to yourself and everyone around you.

Here, I made a handy print out and keep diagram in MS Paint for people's reference

In #4, surely one of the lane changes shown can only be performed if the vehicle is going the wrong way down the motorway??
