I've phoned Bookable to ask what the £40 per person that will be deducted from my refund is for. The lady I spoke to told me that this was for charges levied in processing the claim and hotel accommodation cancellation charges (all a bit vague I'm afraid). Since my invoice states that I booked a Bookable Holidays package holiday, I am not happy with this and certainly not about to sign over my refund claim to them! I'm just waiting in line for ATOL customer service and will keep you posted as to whether I can submit a claim directly to them and (hopefully) bypass this ridiculous 'admin' levy.

I've just given up after holding for the ATOL helpline for 1 hour 50 mins (guess they're busy with yet another travel company going under - Sun 4 U)
  • Right, from my understanding if you booked your holiday from a travel agent, and your flights were supplied by the operator 'Goldtrail' you can claim that from the CAA.

If your hotel and/or transfers were supplied through a different operator, and you wish to cancel them, you would need to do so through your travel agent that you made the booking with. The travel agent/suppliers may charge a cancellation fee. You cannot claim hotel and transfer costs from the CAA if they were not provided by Goldtrail.

I am in a similar situation. Booked holiday with Travel Republic. Flights were provided by Goldtrail. Transfers were provided by a different supplier and hotel was provided by a different supplier. I was fortunate enough to find and book some alternative flights that did not cost much more then my original flights. Yesterday I sent off the CAA claim form to Travel Republic to claim the lost money for the Goldtrail flights. Hotel and transfer remain the same.

If you booked your holiday/flights through a travel agent then the CAA claim along with any required supporting documents must be completed by you and sent to the travel agent. There is a section which the travel agent needs to complete. They must then send the claim form to the CAA to process.

It seems like a long winded and complicated process, which is why they are saying it will takes months. Also be prepared for lost forms etc etc and no one being able to tell you the progress of the claim. Arrrggghghhh

    Happy days !!!

What was the address you sent the form to travel republic?
    Thanks

I sent it to the address on their website:

    Travel Republic,
    Clarendon House,
    147 London Road,
    Kingston upon Thames,
    Surrey,
    KT2 6NH,
    England, UK.

I did get an email from them a few days later advising they had received and completed their sections on the form and forwarded it on to the CAA.

That was then and I still havent heard from CAA. Tried calling them to confirm they had recieved the form from Travel republic but apparently there is no way they can check !
  • I have just read the letter from bookable holidays and seen the claim form. The form only seems to relate to the Goldtrail flight. I am now concerned that they may not reinburse the total cost of the holiday less £40 per person and will actually just reinburse the cost of the flight element less £40. Has anybody actually been told by bookable Holidays that they will get back the full cost ie flight, accom and transfers less £40?:money:

Anyone ready to report back what the outcome is of sorting out our own claim through ATOL vs. Bookable taking £40.00 per person (£160 total for us) 'admin' fee?

Just returned from holiday to find this out. (Had to buy inflated-price flights to go on holiday btw and won't be able to claim the difference back).

Have found the answer out myself. If you re-booked the flights and still used the hotel (therefore not effectively cancelling the hotel) then you won't be charged £40 per person.

Still got to somehow pay off the extra hundreds of pounds difference between booking with Bookable in January then buying more flights 2 weeks before the summer holidays in the midst of the Goldtrail fiasco. A decision we made but we still have to pay it off, so now not having to pay £160 admin fees helps.

Anyone any news of when we`ll get our money from the CAA for the Goldtrail failure... we sent the form in over 3 weeks ago.
  • When I queried the time with the CAA they said that they didn't know when we'd be reimbursed, however since then, I've lost the second alternative flight I booked with Kiss and have been told that it's 80 days max...

    Keep checking your accoutn!
