It has been reported in the last few minutes that Goldtrail Holidays that specialised in holidays to Turkey has ceased trading and gone into administration. Many agents put together holidays using flights purchased from Goldtrail, I suggest you check your documentation if you were hoping to travel in the near future

I often wondered how they could offer their holidays so cheap... now it goes to show.
This may affect a lot of people this summer, Turkey is very popular being out of the €zone, and there has been a lot of extra capacity added by the specialist operators using the Turkish based airlines, Goldtrail being one of the biggest.
There is nothing on it yet, but suggest anyone who is affected monitors the ATOL website http://www.atol.org.uk as I assume info will be added soon.0 -

Goldtrail Holidays has gone into administration with an estimated 16,000 people overseas.
CAA head of Atol licensing Andy Cohen confirmed the Turkey specialist had failed at about 18.00hrs on Friday evening, but said the authority was still "in the dark on detail".
"It went into administration only an hour ago and I came straight back into work," he told Travel Weekly. "We are requesting information as we speak."
Cohen said the failure was not on the scale of XL Leisure Group which collapsed in September 2008 leaving 60,000 holidaymakers overseas.
"We will be able to deal with this one in-house," he confirmed.
Speculation had been rife for some time that Goldtrail could be experiencing difficulties, but even Cohen, who only this month predicted a spate of failures this year, "particularly of operators to the Eastern Med", said the timing of company's demise had been "a shock for all of us".0 -

We are due to fly out in 4 weeks. We booked through Hays Travel but our invoice shows flights are with Goldtrail (who are members of atol). If we have booked flights only, are our flights atol protected? If so, should we book new flights and then claim via atol?

Your flights tickets are cancelled. Refund will be via CAA or credit card company.
Book new tickets now before the prices rise.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Thanks. We paid by debit card so won't be able to claim that way. We can only book new flights if we are definitely covered and will be able to claim our money back from the caa/atol. Are we definitely covered if we booked flights only? Our booking confirmation has the atol number next to the flights.

ATOL have started to provide limited information http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=27&pagetype=65&appid=9&mode=detail&nid=1902
CG77, you're flights will be covered by ATOL. Your first point of call should be Hays travel, they may be willing to help find you alternative flights and rebook. It may not cost you any more as they may be willing to sort out the ATOL claim from their side - although thats not guaranteed. They may be able to arrange alternative flights but ask you to pay and sort the ATOL claim yourself.
But either way, as someone above said, flight prices to Turkey will rise, if they haven't already. To protect your holiday you should be looking at alternative flights ASAP. Try Holidays4u, Aegean Flights and Teleticket who specialise in Turkey flights, as well as the other big tour operators. Either way, speak to Hays travel first.0 -
Booked with a traevl agent who's using them, booked on the 14th July (yes last Wednesday).
Paid with my CC however. I'll take it up with travel agent.0 -

Thank you ever so much-that's a relief! I'd read lots of things saying I might not be covered if I only booked flights and not a package deal?
OK so I need to speak to Hays then get booking another flight.
Where does my friend stand who booked her flights direct with goldtrail (I feel so bad cos I found the hol for her!!)? Does she just go direct to atol/caa and then book another flight or should she not bother with them and go through her CC company (I think she booked using her CC).
Thanks so much again!
