I'm looking to shop in bulk buy my groceries bi-weekly. Is it possible to freeze carton milk?
  • Yup - milk freezes fine but you have to be aware that it expands when frozen so be careful that the cartons dont split.

It also takes on a yellow hue, which can be alarming, but is fine :) I'll add this to the existing thread later.

  • I save the plastic bottles and decant half of my new bottle into the old one, then freeze half a bottle. I then thaw it by standing it in a bowl of lukewarm water for a few hours (I have had problems with it souring if I leave it out to thaw naturally). Once you've given it a good shake you'll never know the difference.

I used to freeze butter, the block type wrapped in paper, but can I freeze the type that comes in a plastic pot?

Yes, that'll be no problem. Margarine freezes too.
