  • Quick question, can you freeze milk? I've heard one or two people say they do, but wasn't sure if its ok to do! How do you then defrost it? In the fridge or at room temp? How long does a 4pt bottle taketo defrost?

I do my monthly shop online to avoid going to shop, but get my milk from Iceland as it's cheaper. However if I can buy it in bulk and freeze it, then I can avoid going to the shops at all through the month! It's when I go to the shop for one thing, I end up buying 5 things I don't need. I've tried taking only cash, but always spend the leftover change (eg have to take round amount from bank eg£10 so I spend the whole £10). Doesn't matter if I take a list or not, I'll still buy more stuff!!!

  • Hi there

I've noticed that there is an offer on semi milk, 2 x 4 pints for £3. So i was wondering if i bought the 8 pints can i freeze one of them and would it be the same when defrosted?

    Thanks

yes you can freeze milk. it will expand when frozen (like icecubes) so make sure there is room in the container for this or it will split.

  • so i would need to use a bit first? Won't it being open affect it?
  • Yes it is, I do this all the time, always try to have some in the freezer. Does take time to defrost, this can be decreased by standing the bottle in a sink or pan of cold water.

  • My mum always freezes milk, it'll be fine once defrosted. When it's frozen it does seem to go an unappealing yellowy colour but it'll go back to normal when it's defrosted.

I defrost mine in the fridge over night then give it a good shake then it lasts as long as milk would normally, I don't tend to freeze it at the moment as we're only got a small freezer and there's no room...

Edit: she freezes the plastic standard bottle things that you get from the supermarket yet she doesn't empty any, the carton expands a little but she's never had one that's split... She just bungs them in as they are when you get them home, I do the same if I have room in the freezer and they're fine.
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

I've never had to open it or use a bit first; as they are in plastic bottles these days, they expand just nice.

I've been freezing milk for as long as i've had the ability to freeze milk. Bread too....so if you see a bargain get it.

No just make sure the bottle has a small gap above the milk and their is a little bit of room around the bottle for it to expand into.
