Let's face it a man who is prepared to walk away from his child will do so regardless of whether or not he was married to the child's mother - or do the CSA ONLY have to deal with unmarried parents?0

Why are you worried, OP? The world is not going to end because people who aren't married are having kids.
I think OP is concerned about how the children of families who were born out of wed luck will perceive the situation. And that they might get the wrong impression that it is just normal.
I am not against two people who agrees to start a family without getting married for as long as they know their responsibilities towards each other, their family and their children. But ideally, if the couple will be willing to stick it out together, 'till death do them part, so why not solidify it by getting married?
I think it is basically for convenience that's why they don't want to get married. Just my 2 cents.Mr. Mulla0 -
My parents weren't married when they had my sister and I. infact, she's 30 now and they got married this year. Not a big wedding; just the two of them (and they didn't mention it till afterwards!). I never really considered them as not married, as they always have been together the whole time. Just because this is how I was brought up doesn't mean it's what I'd want though. I definately want to be married before children. Been with OH for 8 years now, but somehow I feel that being married would 'complete' things. Just a personal choice. :-)
It seems that getting married is SOO expensive. I'd love to do it next year, but would never have the money! I'm guessing weddings are more expensive than they used to be?!0 -
I have been with my OH for years and we have a son, being unmarried does not make us any less of a family unit, infact i dont understand why it should even be an issue, it is only a piece of paper and id rather spend our hard earned cash on our son and home.0

Just as a sidepoint, in this case it was me, the father, that has been with my kids all their lives and their mothers who walked away.
I don't think marriage means a parent will stay in their lives or not. If someone wants out, most of the time, they'll go.0 -

My wife and me were married before we had children, although I think a lot of younger people in this century don't give marriage a second thought!0
