A Recipe for all Mothers by Joanne Green
Today I left some dishes dirty;
The bed I made at 3.30
The nappies soaked a little longer,
The odour grew a little stronger.
The crumbs I spilt the day before
Are staring at me from the floor.
The fingerprints, there on the wall
Will likely still be there next fall.
The dirty streaks on the window panes
Will still be there next time it rains.
"Shame on you lazy-bones" I say
"And just what have you done, today?"
I nursed a baby til he slept,
I held a toddler while he wept.
I played a game of hide and seek
I squeezed a toy, so it would squeak.
I pulled a wagon, sang a song,
Taught a child right from wrong.
What did I do this whole day through?
Not much that shows, I guess it's true...
Unless you think that what I've done
Might be important to someone
With bright blue eyes and soft blonde hair
If that is true, I've done my share.
xx
Thank you. What a lovely poem.
I firmly believe that being with your children and taking time to play with them, listen to them etc. is vitaly important and very under-rated.Second purse £101/100

Gailey - I know my boyfriend expects a show home too but I have very minimal possessions - my sons are mostly in his bedroom and boyfriend is a hoarder of bike parts, car parts etc and has over 300 VW magazines which I don't think hes read in years but he likes to keep! and it keeps getting added too! Plus he seems to do very little to help the situation so with a newborn and a 6 year old its a case of I do what I can when I can.
Yesterday fro example I only got out of my pyjamas at 4.30pm and that was simply for the fact that I had to take Ben to his football practice and when I got to the field and was talking to the other mums they had all done the same all day. Trying to do housework with poorly kids is like trying to pin jelly to a wall.
Annie56 - welcome to the thread first and foremost and good luck with your new ventures in your new flat. Just wanted to pop over and suggest the 'preparing fro winter' thread that is usually about on the first few pages of the OS board - lots of practical things in there to help save money with the cold weather approaching.
Well had my letter back from child benefit yesterday and I'll be getting £33 a week now with babe but Im paid monthly so it will be £132 so told boyfriend I will have a look round town today for the cheapest price on baby milk and then put £40 aside to get boxes of milk since my boobie juice has now dried up. Have made a note on the calendar of when I opened the last tub so am seeing how long it lasts now with her on 6oz bottles so I can get a good idea of how many I need. Best I have found so far is £7.24 in Tesco but am wondering if I will get discount on it in the coop where I'm currently working - although think its nearer £8 in there.Time to find me again0 -
Thanks everyone for such a lovley warm welcome, your right Hippeechiq some of my "friends" are in some awful maritial situations, and there the ones that have been the most forthright in there opinions and let me know there views well all I replied was you have the choice do what I did exercise that choice.
Well day 2 in a my new place and on closer inspection my flats got a few bits wrong with it but I can deal with that, its mine, well the Landlords lol but shes lovley lady and has assured me that as long I pay the rent on time and keep it looking ok then after 6 months my tenancy just rolls along, thats one bit of good news anyways.
Its the back of a converted big Victorian house and I have a lovley new fitted kitchen and bathrom a decent sized lounge and a massive bedroom all high ceilings BUT just storage heaters so am keeping an eye on the leccie meter.
Sammy Kaye, thanks for the nod on the Surviving Winter thread looks as good as this one so thats this evenings reading taken care of.
Have to pop out in this wind down to the allotments as I had a phone call to go down and see the blokey that runs it, seems Im no 4 on the list but could jump to the top, one of the lottie holders hasnt been going to the allotment and its fell into disrepair and wants to leave but they have a good shed and layout and want £70 for the stuff there leaving behind, well the 3 in front of me on the waiting list have turned down the offer so its my turn to be asked, and its going to be a resounding YES....someone,somewhere is looking out for me so will update you all laters.

Hey Annie56, 9 years ago I left my husband and was on my own in my little flat for 18months before I met my current OH. It was daunting but I'm so glad I did. I lost friends but made new ones and have 2 that have been there since school.
Good luck with the allotment, were growing tomatoes in our yard and they have been green for over a month, guess we need some sun!
Sammy - I remember when DS1 ws 2 and DS2 was just born, i dont remember making it out the house some days!

Thank you for sharing the poem with us purple heather. Reading it has made me feel very sentimental about my two children (34 &31 now). I was a SAHM & we lived on one wage until they were almost teenagers. I asked my DD the other day if she had had a happy childhood & explained that her Dad & I hadn't had the money to do/ give her & her brother eveything we would have liked & she said YES. I was so happy to know that.
Annie56 I am sure you will be happy in your new home. I moved out 13 years ago & I have never regretted it even though I have had a lot of ups & downs in that time & am still trying to forgive & forget some of it.
This thread is great for learning & sharing & knowing that you are not alone in what you are trying to do.
On a happy note I was talking to two of the older ladies in my local Tesco this morning & advised them to come on to the MSE site if they wanted to learn useful things.
Now have the £50.00 I want saved for Christmas on my Tesco Clubcard so am in line now for the £3.00 bonus so that will be Christmas goodies & food sorted.0
