I know you cannot work as a nurse at the mo, but could you get some bank at a lower level for the few months, jsy so you have a little bit of second income? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

It's finally hit home that I'm unemployed as today I've received my last pay cheque. I would have been on holiday anyway with working in a school but now I'm thinking in 2 weeks daughter is back at school 8hours a day and husband at work 10 hours a day so some long days on my own. There are just no jobs about to apply for, shops not hiring and with schools budgets being slashed I'm not holding out any hope for doing teaching assistant work again. Have been feeling quite keen to save money and cook from scratch but now I suddenly feel quite low
It's perfectly natural. I didn't really realise it at the time but when I lost my job in January, I kind of shut down mentally for a few weeks, just didn't feel able to cope with the "reality" of the situation.
Then, as ginny quite rightly says, you'll see something on here that sparks your interest, see that there are many worse off than you are, become inspired by the human spirit and of the support offered on here to anyone and everyone who happens to pop in, no matter what their circumstances.
Then you make new friends (who cares if they're virtual ones?!) learn new skills and feel like you're part of something. And a whole new world opens up.
You will find yourself a new routine - it just takes a little time to adjust, so hang in there. It does get better :grouphug:Aug11 £193.29/£240

A Recipe for all Mothers by Joanne Green
Today I left some dishes dirty;
The bed I made at 3.30
The nappies soaked a little longer,
The odour grew a little stronger.
The crumbs I spilt the day before
Are staring at me from the floor.
The fingerprints, there on the wall
Will likely still be there next fall.
The dirty streaks on the window panes
Will still be there next time it rains.
"Shame on you lazy-bones" I say
"And just what have you done, today?"
I nursed a baby til he slept,
I held a toddler while he wept.
I played a game of hide and seek
I squeezed a toy, so it would squeak.
I pulled a wagon, sang a song,
Taught a child right from wrong.
What did I do this whole day through?
Not much that shows, I guess it's true...
Unless you think that what I've done
Might be important to someone
With bright blue eyes and soft blonde hair
If that is true, I've done my share.
xx
Gawd - I'm such a sop!!
That instantly gave me misty eyes and brought a lump to my throat :rotfl:

Just popping in with some good news! I've managed to get a shift doing some light cleaning for a friend, just once a week but it will help and then dh (who has been threatened with redundancy in his present post) has just been offered a new job which is better paid as well!:j I really hope that some of our good luck can now rub off onto anyone else who needs it.
Garden is getting so much rain atm that our courgettes are quickly becoming marrows so will be making chutney again! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

This one from Aussielass is good
Aussies courgette relish recipe
1 + 1/2 kg courgettes, 500g onions, 500g cooking apples. Dice courgette, onion & apple fairly small. Boil until soft. Add 1 pint apple cider vinegar, 1 1/2 lbs sugar, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tsp tumeric, 1 tbsp curry powder, pepper, 1 tbsp brown mustard sees. Boil for 5 minutes. Thicken with 1 tbsp cornflour & a little vinegar. Boil another 5 mins. Makes 6 big jars.
P.S. my last batch I needed more cornflour to thicken.
I also use another recipe that takes 3lb of any fruit or veg, so useful one to have and works well, off to find it now!

Hi everyone, do you mind if I join in your thread?
Ive popped in and out over time but due to juggling long working hours andthe demands of family I find it difficult to make time to catch up with threads.
Though I really do need a boost to get me OS at the moment as living with OH has started me on the road to bad habit, such as too may take aways, which mean that our shopping buget is totally blown
We need to start tighting our belts finacially as both of us work for the local authority and what with the pay freeze and very really threat of redundancy we could do with being more aware of where the pennies are going.GC: £400/ £00
