I finished in 4 hours 50 mins.....was more than happy with that, as it is 23 mins faster than I was 2 years ago, and 26 mins faster than my first marathon 20 years ago, when I was a mere 20 years old :D

It was incredibly hot out there, and I forgot my garmin so had no idea of pace etc - so I really did just have to trust myself and my running, and that paid off - 11 min miles pretty much all the way through, and my aim of finishing under 5 hours was achieved.

I struggled a bit between 18 and 21 miles, but got a bit of a second wind after that and managed to keep going without walking for more than 30 seconds at a time every so often.

All in all, a fantastic day - over £1000 raised for charity, and I am a happy hypno!!

  • That's great Hypno :) Well done!!

I am going to try to get a place in 2012....with a view to that I am going to go out for an outdoor run some time this week  I will let you know how I get along. I haven't been keeping up my running recently (haven't been for a few days) so hoping that running outside might get my motivation back :) Plus I am going to run Race for Life this year (1 x 10k on my own and 1 x 5k with a friend, so will be more of a walk/jog as she is not a runner) which will (I hope) get me motivated to enter other races as I am a complete weed when it comes to doing things in front of other people :o The only way I manage it is to just do it!

PIGZ - sorry, I don't have a clue...have you checked out a runners forum for advice? I have found them quite useful if you can't find what you need here x

    How are you feeling hypno?

Very slow 4.5mi(ish) for me yesterday. My main aim is now to get to 20mi a week so the speed atm is irrelevant. I'm going to do 4 runs this week, but probably this week just keep them to 4.5mi and then next week (though I'll be on hols so might be bit difficult) do the whole 20mi.

I woke up yesterday morning with the craziest notion that it might be "fun" to run the London Marathon next year !!

That was at 5:30am, and by the time I left the house at 6:45am I knew when the run is, when they're starting to accept ballot applications, and when Easter is next year (we're not allowed any annual leave for a certain timescale around Easter - but that's not an issue for 2012 ;))

Mentioned the crazy idea to my line manager this morning, and by 3:30pm my application for annual leave around that date had been handed in to HR for approval !!!!

I know that (even if I don't bottle out before putting my name into the ballot) it'll be months before I know whether I have a place or not, but I'd rather book the time off first (which can be cancelled with a minimum of 6 weeks notice) than get a place and then find I can't get the time off work......

I'm still thinking it might be one of the silliest ideas I've ever had in my life though :rotfl:

I think everyone who wants to do a marathon is bit nuts, but in a good way! :) Go for it cw18! But start building it up early enough.

I've got a half-marathon 8 weeks on Sunday (!), so as long as I don't hibernate through the winter (like I did this last one) I reckon it should be achievable

Hopefully if I've heard I've got a place it will be enough to keep me heading out in the dark, rain and snow rolleyes.gif

Steady / easy run for me this morning - much too hot to worry about my pace !!! It was also my very first run without checking my watch for HR, pace or distance at any point between setting out and getting back - something else I know I need to work on as I don't actually like constantly checking them, it's just something I don't seem to be able to resist doing unknown.gif

3.2 miles in 31:08.6, so an average pace of 9:43.9/mile.
Max HR 165, average 150 - think those are the lowest figures I've ever seen, which surprised me given the ambient temperature.

I've been using the same first 1.75 miles for most of my runs over the last few weeks, and the uphill work in the first mile or so of that is definitely getting less noticeable ;)
