I hope the injured amongst us are healing nicely!
It's excellent running weather isn't it Hypno? I did 5 miles before work yesterday and the same again this morning - it was lovely running in the early morning sun. How is the tapering going?
Fingers crossed for the weather tomorrow runninglea, I don't do a lot of cycling but imagine it's not much fun in the wind and rain (unlike running - I love running in the rain).2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
did a 2 mile run with the dog on Tuesday night - average of 11 minute miles, but that included a 'poop and scoop' stop - which was a huuuge improvement for him in terms of distance, as he's been stopping dead at 1.3 miles up until now
Wednesday morning I went out on my own, planning on 4 miles - but the loop fell a fraction short (3.98miles). Had intentionally kept my speed down, and clocked an average of 9:39/mile
This morning I went on my own again, extended the run at the top of the loop, and clocked 4.28 miles. I also (unintentionally) picked the speed back up a bit, and recorded an average of 9:29/mile
My running club have one of their annual races this Sunday - which is a 5 mile one. Had originally planned to take part, but (due to lack of training while doing a run of o/t at work) I was struggling to do even 2 miles a couple of weeks ago - so hadn't submitted an entry form. After today I'm now thinking I can probably manage it (have previously done 2 races of 5 miles, and 2 of 10km), and they have spaces left which mean registration is available on the day...... so I'm hoping to do it after all(Just depends on how shattered I am that morning, as I'm going on a date tomorrow night!)

Today's 5 mile race didn't go to plan
Not sure if I increased my mileage too much this week, or if it was just the (unexpected and unplanned) speed I kicked off at (or a combination of the two) but I felt a muscle start to pull by the 2.5 mile mark. The race was a series of loops and 3 mile mark was at the start/end, so I managed to keep going to there and then pulled out.
I contemplated keeping going given I did a 5 mile race on a bad shin splint last October (and a 10km race and another 5 mile one before it was fully healed), but there wouldn't have been another easy point to drop out and I only have 10 weeks until my half-marathon which I don't want to jepordize (and I still have a lot of training to do for that!).
Not a total disaster though, as it was the fastest 3 miles I've ever done - and that was even after having to walk up an incline just before I stopped
The fastest average speed I've ever had to date (even on personal runs) has been 9:22/mile, but today I managed 9:04/mile. Reached the 1st mile point (including first time up 'that' incline) in 8:43, and 2nd mile point (no nasty inclines in 2nd mile) in 17:05 - meaning I did the second mile in a staggering 8:22 !!!! I have hit a max pace of around 7:34 before, but always on routes with a significant down-hill, and there were none of those today - the second mile being pretty flat.Cheryl0 -
Nice speeds there!! But more importantly, how did the date go????
I'm nicely tapering - an hour at steady pace yesterday in the sunshine. I am loving the sun, but hoping for a bit of cloud and a cool breeze to kick in on Sunday! I am actually quite looking forward to the race being over in a strange way, because I am looking forward to just running for the sake of running and enjoying the space again, if that makes sense.....maybe it is just race nerves kicking in.
This time next week, it will all be over, again
Happy running this week everyone, and look after those injuries where needed!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

First run for awhile on Tuesday. After lot of cycling decided to run to a match we had close by,thought about doing 3mi but when I started running my legs felt so heavy I didn't think I'd manage it so went the straightest route - 1.8mi. Though it felt really slow, it was about 11min/mile.
Wednesday I went out for a run as well, plan was to do 4.5. Ended up doing 3.5 and it was ok. I want to get back to my 20mi a week but the cycling is taking a lot of power from my legs so will take my time. Next week planning to do 4 runs,3.5mi minimum but hopefully try at least one longer run and then hopefully the week after will do the whole 20 with 2x4.5,5 and 6 miles and then keep that going for 4weeks.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -

only a short run for me today - 2.13 miles at an average pace of 8:46.8/mile
happy with the speed, but not happy that the muscle that caused me to pull out of the race on Sunday is now twinging slightly againCheryl0 -
Hi, hope no-one minds me butting in. I need some motivation please.
I needed something to aim for this year and someone told me that I couldnt complete this years cardiff half marathon so like a fool i said 'watch me'... not being in any way athletic or energetic and the only exercise i got was walking to the car, i was quite happy going out three times a week attempting to run and ecstatic when i managed to get to 2 miles without being exhausted. However about 6 weeks ago i pulled a ligament in my knee, i've got dodgy knees anyway so should have been wearing supports more often, but we live and learn. I thought it was healing after spending 2 or 3 weeks doing non weight bearing exercises and i'll be fine for a couple of days go for a walk and then back comes the pain and the limp. I'd like to get back out doing some sort of training but am at a loss as to what to try next. Can anybody give me any ideas please, being a non runner in the first place i printed off the how to train for a half marathon timetables found on the net but no one says what you should do if you have an injury. I dont want to give up altogether as i've signed up for the race and already started collecting for my chosen charity.0
