    Hi All Newbie here

I'm not really sure were to start.....
I had a dream (now bare with me), i dreamt that i was running around my town and doing really well, I ran/jogged the whole route (in my dream) and it was brilliant. Well it got me thinking prehaps I could start running, Ive never before seen the point of running round town but thanks to my dream I think i get i now. As Im going away this week Im not going to start until next week, but as I have found this thread I thought I post so I can find it again when im back.
I have no targets, goals or races I want to achieve but I would like to be able to do my dream route in under a week (it was quite far). Just want to improve health and fitness and as the weather has been so lovely lately it is kinda spuring me on. So i know I need a good pair of pumps (running trainers) but is there anything else I should look to getting - how do you guy, monitor our times and distance? fancy apps? watches??? any tips
Whats the best way to warm up, i know a few stretches from my football days

Any advice would be great and Il let you know how i get on.

    Thanks

    Hi Puzzle

How long is your dream run? If it's quite far and you have never run before you might find it difficult to do in one week - not saying it can't be done though! My BIL once ran a half marathon never having gone for a run and he did it in a good time too :D There is absolutely no way I could have done that though!

When I run outside (rarely at the moment) I use mapmyrun.com to plot the route then I time my run. I usually run on the treadmill which solves that problem :D

I know it's bad, but I don't do any stretches or anything either before or after a run :o That is not good advice and I don't advise you do this, but I'm not in a position to tell you the best stretches, sorry

Let us know when you start, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you do your route soon :D ( a good forum for running is runnersworld - they have loads of really experienced runners posting there)

    Good luck x

Sorry to hear you've been ill LMH.

Puzzle - yes, tell us more about what you want to do. I always stretch my calves, hamstrings and quads after a run,for me it's a must!

I was supposed to go for my long run today but my legs are still feeling the last couple of days (yesterday we went to do some trails with the mountain bikes,13miles altogether) and I want to go and play beach vb. But I did go and get fitted for proper running shoes and bought them too!

I'm back after a week away and then the week before that I almost passed out while out running so have had some time off. No idea what caused that at all as I'd had plenty of food and water to drink that day. Felt dreadful afterweards for a couple of days and decided to have a rest and get better for the holiday.

A lot of hill walking on holiday which was great with the weather last week too. Legs still a little tired from all that but dragged myself out for a run after work today. Felt quite tired and heavy out there and was surprised to get back in 35mins for 4 miles as it felt slower than that.

Anyway think I have my running mojo back and have been weighing up enquiring for the VLM next year. Might be worth it to keep going.

Anyway this week's run plan is Wed 6 miles and Friday 12 miles

    Happy running everyone!

4 miles tonight in the usual 35mins. Went ok despite the bitterly cold wind. However, better than this morning when the snow arrived!
