Well done sparkles, how long now for the half?
You're doing well LMH, don't put yourself down.
I've not been running for just over a week now, first work stuff then been ill over Easter. Taking my new trainers for a little jog on the treadmill this evening and then I'm going for a swim. Hopefully couple of more runs outside this week including one longer one on Saturday.
I have decided to do a half marathon now, just waiting for pay day on Friday to enter.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
Its the 10k on Sunday then the half 4 weeks to the day after.
Aiming for 13 miles or more on Friday and having 2 days off to helps tired legs recover then hoping to be race fit on Sunday!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Sparkles - did you follow any training plan or did you make your own up? What were you up to mileage wise weekly before you started training for your half mara and did you run regularly? And what length training plan are you on? Sorry, loads of questions just starting to try to work mine out...
Finally off the mark this month. Tested my new trainers on the treddie in the gym tonight, 3.1miles with some 9:30m/m pacing (quick for me atm). Then a little half an hour swim after.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
Hey, were have you all gone???
Just had the worst run for ages. Couldn't breathe, laces were too tight, legs felt unresponsive and I just felt really heavy and unfit. Not exactly the run I wanted after I entered the Bristol Half yesterday! Yes, I'm going to do my first half marathon and it seems there's a lot to be worked at. I do like my new trainers though.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
Well done on entering your first half mara, tirlittan
I am still here but just lots going on for me at the moment.
Ran 2 miles yesterday but my heart wasn't in it and couldn't be bothered to go for longer
Things are looking a bit better now, won't be able to do any running this weekend (probably) as it is DD's birthday and we have lots planned, might try to fit one in tonight after they have gone to bed....Be the change you want to see in the world - Gandhi

No worries questions are fineapologise for the delay
- Training - built up from 6 miles about 1 mile per fortnight and then a week per long run each week since Jan. Then also ran 2 short runs in the week either 4miles or 6 miles depending on how much time I have totalling 3 or 4 runs per week
- Mileage - I started from 12 miles a week of 3 x 4 mile runs a week then built back to 6 miles once a week and 2 x 4 mile runs. Then started increasing the one long run later on by 1 mile per week once I got to 10miles.
- Length of training plan - started in Jan from 6 miles upwards to mid May when the half mara is
By the way, I made the plan up just to see if it would work for me and it did! I still can't quite get over the fact that I can run for over 2hrs and for almost 13 miles. Now that's what I call a result!
I'm just rediscovering my love of cycling now after getting my new bike and I'm hoping to get to the point where I can cycle to work and back for couple of days over the summer which will be a 24 miles round trip.
Training for the half marathon has done wonders for me. I feel so much more confident about what I can do now and I believe I can do it. And to think I almost didn't apply for it because I didn't believe I'd be able to do it. Its been really enjoyable training for it too however I am looking forward to changing some of the exercise once its over to include more cycling and doing a 10mile run because I want to rather than purely trainingfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Some great inspiration here- I did the Caythorpe Canter today- 26.2 miles of tracks, minor roads and fields walking and running in 7 hours 10 minutes which is quite quick for me!!0

Cheers sparkles. I definitely want to do some over distance runs as well. I've been running fairly regularly since January, missed a week here and there if I've been ill but doing 6-10miles a week. Longest run atm has been 4.5miles but at least I have 5months to build up.
I've entered a try-a-tri which is in 3 weeks time so been doing swimming and cycling as well. I want to do more (well, we'll see truly after the first one) but loads going on this spring/summer so I'll have to wait and see if I can enter a sprint later on. Want to buy a road bike though as only have mtb with slicks atm.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -

That sounds great Luckystepho. Depending how I get on with my first half mara, I really want to do a trail one, probably the one in Forest of Dean next year. Just need to get up to distance first.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -
Thanks tirlittan, the Long Distance Walkers Association list a lot of challenge events on their web site (http://www.ldwa.org.uk/) as well as 26 mile routes there is ususally a shorter option and they are generally open to runners as well as walkers.
Good luck for your first half marathon!0
