11.8 miles for me in 1hr 57 mins today. Went pretty well overall so pleased really with how all the training is going. I think its coming together at last. Just under 10min mile pace

Next run is planned for Sunday - 6miles steady but quicker than today

4 weeks until my first 10k - hoping to come in somewhere around 54mins or less

8 weeks until my first half mara - aiming somewhere around 2hrs 15mins for this

Getting closer to the distance now and aiming to consolidate the running to eventually a slighter stronger and quicker pace. Steady away though all the way

If it hadn't have been for the running threads on here I'm not sure if I'd have any started running again after so many years off. It's been such a big help. Prompted me to get started on the C25K programme and start from a point where I couldn't run for a minute or even for a bus and now I can run for almost 2hrs :D

Funnily enough too I thought about all of this when out running yesterday and came to the conclusion that the most enjoyable part of running has been increasing the distance to half mara length. Hard work and hard going at times but enjoyable all the same. Really hard work at times when I couldn't imagine running as far as I do but also really enjoyable too :rotfl:Especially discovering the energy boosting effects of jelly babies when I get back :p

Great work! Your journey's been quite inspiring too.

I went for my 'LSR', long it wasn't but slow yes. 4.4 miles for me. I'm seriously thinking about doing the Bristol half mara now so will start running 3 times a week now till the tri's and then take it up to 4 after.

  • Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, I started running about this time last year. I did the NHS Choices Couch to 5K program over last summer. I was unemployed at the time so able to do lots of running. I completed the program and did a 5K fun run last summer but then got a job in September which has been very stressful and somewhat stalled my progress. I've been for a couple of runs over the last few weekends as I've been feeling quite anxious about work and find running therapeutic, plus I signed up last year for a 10K run with some friends in May that I had been putting to the back of my mind.

I ran for an hour and a half today (no idea how far though!) which I was really pleased with and I guess the next step will be to try and increase my speed. I thought I would post here to try and motivate myself to keep going and not just wimp out of doing the 10K due to pressure of work, bad weather and laziness! Thank you for reading.

A glorious 6 mile run this morning in the lovely spring air returning home under a bright blue sky and in 52mins. Yeah! Now that's what I call a good morning!

I have been a runner in the past, though over the past 2 years is slowly sloped off and now its whenever i feel like, and when sport dictates over a set routine.

Recently i was starting to see left leg calf pain about 5 1/2 miles into a gental run, at about 10min miles. If i kept on running, this would spread down into the outside of the foot causing a limp.

As this had happened a few times with a half marathon coming up, i decided to take a week off running to let things heal.

Today was the half marathon, things started well until i looked at my watch at the 3 mile point to notice that the time was just over 23mins. My calfs were already burning as the first 2 miles were hilly.

About 5 miles onwards, the calf pain was solid and stretching it off helped a little. About mile 8 onwards, the pain was permanent and would not shift with stretching. The remainder 5 miles were spent running with the discomfort and setting stretching points ahead.

I know that increasing the regular distance from 6-8-10-12 miles over a period will help, but this is unlikely to happen and i just need to deal with it at the next event etc.

Anyhows, the time was just over 2 hours which is not my personal best. I was at 9miles at 1hr 19mins which was a shame to the overall time.

Another half marathon under the belt today, without any training. Not a single thing since the last 1/2 marathon above.

Chip time was over 2hrs (A new personal best :(). I had pain in the left calf again, tried to run through it but eventually it went into the foot and caused a limp. Stopped 8-9 times to stretch/walk it off.

If im going to be doing this often, im going to have to start at 6 miles again and build up. The forecasted Great North Run time during training a few years ago was 1hr 42mins. Quite a bit off..

    Great going sparkles :)

Welcome Bellatrix (a fellow HP fan ;))

tirlittan - you'll get faster :) (I said so, so it must be true!)

Alias_Omega - they sound like great times to me :)

4 miles in 43 minutes today......decided to build up to 6 miles rather than keep up the pace so once I am up to 6 miles I will work on the speed - always chopping and changing my mind!

Good times for someone who puts no effort into training, i really cant find a route that is interesting enough to sustain any lengthy amount of training.

Summer is on its way, so running will drop off and ill see what happens when september/october comes. What really will kickstart it again is a 2013 VLM place, as ive entered the 20010/2011/2012 which all have been unsucessful.

No goal = No serious training..
