As mentioned no running for me today, and it was perfect weather for it this evening. Why is it I most feel the urge to run when there is absolutley no chance I can go for one! May try and fir in a 4 miler tomorrow after finishing work and before driving home - there's a perfect route near where I work, and will wake me up before my drive home.

Hi everyone, Can I join in? I have been running now for 4 months and can now run 4 miles and a little bit. I have done a few 5K races and now want to train for a 10K, but it feels a bit daunting and I don't really know where to start in stepping up the distances. Any advice would be gratefully received!

What is the shred DVD that I keep seeing mentioned? I have recently lost a lot of weight and as well as getting fit I want to maintain my new weight, so all help is welcome. I would also love to do a marathon, but again this scary and I don't even know how to apply/train etc.

    Hi and welcome

I asked the same question about 10k (I did my first earlier this month) and was advised that on one of your runs, do it slow and increase the distance by 10% each time, so if younormally do 5k, do 5.5 the following week etc etc

naturally, I DIDN'T follow this advice and went in to my 10k never having actually done the distance! I got round, though. It's not as daunting as it seems ;)

As for shred......  frightens me :rotfl:

Week 5 run 1 completed this morning.

Getting longer in distance over the last week, noticing not as puffed on the way round and after and not taking as long to recover. Might try and get out again first thing tomorrow for run 2

    Hello!!

And lovely to see new faces here :)

I have spent weekend with BF and have been truly spoiled and pampered :p I am going to attempt a run tomorrow, haven't decided for how long, what distance or what speed as yet. I have everything crossed that my shin won't get temperamental over it.

Oooh - and got my shred on Friday but haven't had time to do it so will see how my run goes in the morning and might give it a go in the evening. On that note - where did I put my chocolate...

ETA: THIS is keeping me occupied at the moment, roll up, roll up it will be fun

Woohoo - I have been running today. One mile to work and then three miles after work. It was very slow going but at least I have made a start.

I am following the Chirunning half marathon training plan and this week is all about form focuses with one long run. I am aiming to do my tomorrow's run before going to work after dropping DD off to the holiday club. I just think that I need to change my route as the park where I was today is a bit hilly :o - might opt for the tow path tomorrow...;)

If any of you live in or around Manchester and were driving up the only hill around here they might have seen a middle aged, average height woman of the 'traditional build' running. Yes, it was me - time for serious training; Lausanne is approaching fast. Yesterday was a longish run day so I run 6.5 miles up and down The Hill - sweet.

Today went to the gym and had my session with my trainer - after that all my muscles were gently trembling. Great!

But weight is not going down.

Firewalker - put that scale away or even better: sell it, give it away, bin it. I have dropped a dress size since I started running but my scale hasn't budged so it has started an early retirement in the airing cupboard.
