I thought you 'hated' Asda?0

I'm afraid in the court of public opinion its not right at all.
Well you've posted it in public and (so far) the public are disagreeing with you................
End of the day, the bank held the money, not asda. Want someone to shout at? Try the bank
I've used Asda for years and never had a problem. Then again i would find out where i stand and what went wrong before jumping in both feet first and running my mouth...........
Or are you going to say you dislike me too simply because i dont agree with your twisted logic? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

0845 costs 3p/min. That is £1.80 an hour. Even if Asda kept all of this, do you think that the person on the other end of the phone is getting paid less than £1.80? No, they aren't, they are getting paid more than this. Asda are not making money on this.
However, £15 at 3p/min is 8 hours. I doubt that your sister spent 8 hours on the phone to them, we can infer from this that she used a mobile, hence most of those call charges went to her mobile company.
Now, let's say that Asda did take £100 off 100,000 customers for 10 days and earn the interest on that. Your maths is way off. 5% APR is very high interest, but let's stick with that. That's 0.013% a day. So that £100 will earn them 100 * (1.00013)^10 - 100. That's 13p! i.e. £13k a year for all 100,000 customers they annoy. They could save this by not annoying the customers and employing one less call centre employee.
Well let my give more details, she does not have the luxury of a land line so she rang from her mobile, she was in panic state at having no money.
Regarding the interest £100*100000 customers is 10 million quid, I dont think the interest on £10 000 000 is £13k a year do you.
I would not be suprised if RBS is not involved in lending to payday loan companies either at 2000% apr, so 2000% on 10 million, work that out.
And try using a calculator this time. The world is full of usury.

Try using your brain this time, your calculations are based on them keeping the 10mill for a whole year.............gibbons was based on them keeping each £100 for 10 days with 100000 customers over the course of a year.........You keep using that word. In case you have not noticed there is more than 10 days in a year, they pull this stunt week in week out, so I would def say it averages 10 million a year, it may happened to more but they dont realise as they dont have low funds in their bank. The world is full of usury.

Do you read the Daily Mail by any chance?0

Where are you getting the 100,000 customers from?
This happens as the exception rather than the norm. The majority of transactions will go through without problems, surely the actual number of problem transactions will be far less that 100,000?
Can you please provide a link confirming that they have 100,000 problem transactions per year, thanks.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Have we really got to the stage, where a landline is considered a luxury. I always considered a mobile to be a luxury and a landline to be an essential.
Anyway, I thought if say you ordered £100 worth of items, they take out an additional £1 and you don't get the £1 back until such time as stated in T&C's.
So, I'm still trying to work out, if they took £100 out, then changed the order to £99, why do Asda need to take out £99 in addition to the £100 they took out.
It seems pretty black and white, that the OP's sister, shouldn't have been left with no money available to her, whoever is at fault.0 -

Yes but even if they did have the money (which we've already said they dont - its the banks who hold it) then they would only have each £100 for 10 days. They wouldnt have it for the whole year.............
Myself, family and friends have all shopped at Asda online and have never had this happen. Which suggests that its possibly because of the type of card/account your sister has. Isnt a Solo or visa electron by any chance is it?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
