And it may well be in the Terms and conditions.

But that does not make it RIGHT!

Look at fred "shred" goodwins pension terms and condition I suppose you guys think that his £18 million pension was okay too.

Yeh, because RBS is a supermarket, and this is wholly relevant to your opening post?

I think it's obvious that you don't really understand much about the whole banking/finance/capitalism/economics/politics/conspiracy crap and you're way out of your depth.

This is ASDA's fault as they dont release the reserved amount.
She also racked up £15 of phone charges to bank/asda 0845 numbers.
............and £1.5 million in call charges.

THIS COMPANY IS SCUM. GOODBYE ASDA:T

Those phone call charges are irrelevant.
Not everyone would be daft enough to spend £15 on phone calls when http://www.saynoto0870.com provide direct numbers for Asda stores, as well as banks.
£1.5m in call charges would not be kept by Asda or the Bank anyway, as they have to pay line rental out of that.

So we've gone from £100 with ASDA to £18M with the RBS, without stopping off anywhere in between. Any advance on £18M, anyone???

I beg to differ, she tried to find out what was going on and these are the only advetised number. She was worried and they take advantage.

How much money is this making the banks/asda?

    Say 100 000 x £100 reserved for 10 days.
So over a year 10 million at 5% is £500k and £1.5 million in call charges.

It would be good if you think before posting things like this.

0845 costs 3p/min. That is £1.80 an hour. Even if Asda kept all of this, do you think that the person on the other end of the phone is getting paid less than £1.80? No, they aren't, they are getting paid more than this. Asda are not making money on this.

However, £15 at 3p/min is 8 hours. I doubt that your sister spent 8 hours on the phone to them, we can infer from this that she used a mobile, hence most of those call charges went to her mobile company.

Now, let's say that Asda did take £100 off 100,000 customers for 10 days and earn the interest on that. Your maths is way off. 5% APR is very high interest, but let's stick with that. That's 0.013% a day. So that £100 will earn them 100 * (1.00013)^10 - 100. That's 13p! i.e. £13k a year for all 100,000 customers they annoy. They could save this by not annoying the customers and employing one less call centre employee.
