I work for the Devil (Tesco) I am a checkout chick (also a pregnant/emotional one too!)
yes..its a poo job, and yes, Tesco are poo (and they do treat their customers and staff terribly sometimes...hence the saying at our store "Every Little Helps, unless you are staff then we couldnt give a ****"...but do you know what...that does not give anyone the right to speak to staff like they are something on the bottom of their shoe.
You have a problem with a product, speak to customer services.
Not happy at not having bags at the end of a checkout, then speak to customer services.
Dont like that I have to offer you boxes for your bottles, then bring your own bags or use carriers...but dont come crying to me when the bottom falls out.
Not happy that my till is closing (because the shop shut at 10, and its 10.10 and I finished work 10 mins ago (so im not being paid now) then do your shopping earlier..do not threaten to leave your stuff on the belt...there are other tills open, aswell as self service.
No reduced items available? what do you want me to do? go and reduce a load of in date/perfectly ok stuff so you can have it cheaper.
No we dont have electricals/clothes/home ware and no I dont know when we will be getting the expansion
No papers left, that because its 10pm
Do not dump your bags in front of me and say "pack it properly"
and lastly, do not swear at me...I am not a fxxxxxxx bxxxx, neither am I a !!!!!!. I am a human being, just the same as you are...just because I am a checkout chick, does not give you the right to speak to me in such an appalling manner.
Oh...and while I am on my soapbox...a moving conveyor belt IS NOT a safe nor hygienic place for you to put your young baby...do not swear at me or give me evils if I ask you to remove it.
The announcements that ask parents not to allow their children to stand or sit in the food compartments of the trolley are their for a good reasons...I like the rest of the population do not wish to put my carrots where your kids filled nappy has been...put it in the seat, or if its old enough s/he can walk. Arguments of " so she will behave herself" arent valid.
Rant Over....going to work now

Hope you have a great day at work"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.0 -

When I worked for Tesco I used to get a laugh at the folk that would say "im going to asda" and tut loudly so i could hear it when working in the veg aisle. I wished they would go to asda would save me having to refill the carrots all the time!0 -

Maybe retail has gone to your head, you MAY want to re-think what you just wrote...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

As a customer, I don't want my goods scanned with excessive speed so that you can meet your targets - and my perishables end up scrunched up at the end of the conveyor belt. If set targets are unrealistic, go see your manager.
I would like to be able to buy over-advertised specials such as BOGOFFS. Yes, I do feel justified in commenting when there are none on the shelves. If my comment offends, go talk to your supply chain manager.
If I have forgotten to bring bags, why ask me if I need a plastic carrier when it's obvious I do? Why look at me like I'm personally/solely responsible for the demise of rainforests? Why scowl at me when I ask for plain carrier bags so that I'm not implicating your supermarket in the global warming debacle? Take it up with head office.
Finally, pleasant, cranky or just plain miserable, we customers are your bread and butter. Enoy us whilst you can - self-scan checkouts will ultimately deprive you of your job.0 -
I was overcharged at Tesco today (which happens a lot), but the Customer Service woman couldn't have been nicer. I was happy to have the overcharged amount refunded, but she insisted on giving me double the error. Generally, I find that people who are rude to shop workers are just rude people anyway, so I wouldn't take it personally.0

A: the manager will have targets set from head office. Speaking to him / her will be of no use whatsoever for the checkout operator.
B: commenting to the checkout staff is fine, blaming them for not having stock in is not - if you think your comment may be offensive then maybe don't say it. Take your own advice and speak to the manager.
C: can't really comment as I always take bags with me. Maybe you could try this too ? As for unlabeled bags, take it up with the manager, it's unlikely the shop keeps unlabeled ones in just for fussy customers.I hope not, I hate unmanned selfservice checkouts as they never work correctly for me and I always have to get the assistant to scan my alcohol or some other item.

If I as a customer have a problem with an item I will tell the member of staff on the till as they are my last point of contact and I would EXPECT them to inform their superior.
I may not take it to customer service because I feel that if I have informed one member of staff that is my duty done and also I do not wish to cue up again after spending an age around the shopThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
