Used to work in a clearance store for a clothing retailer.

At least 3 times a day, someone would stand in front of me and demand an item that was still current stock- and wouldn't be in our store for another six months. When this was explained, a few would be happy enough, as they hadn't realised. The ones who did complain- they simply didn't get it. Was told once I was 'deliberately' obstructing a lady from buying a top after I'd told her 4-5 times already that if she wanted it, I'd have to order it in, or she could go to the nearest current store- 12 miles away.

If we did do an order, people would invariably ask if they could pick it up in an hour.

During sales, we got rammed with trolley's, baskets, and I'd even been asked to look after someone's children so she could shop in peace. When I told her I couldn't, I was told I had no idea what customer service was!

The worst for me was when I was squatting down pricing reduced jewellery. A man grabbed me by the shoulder and threw me on the ground so his wife could get to the jewellery. I had them escorted from the store. He was lucky it wasn't taken further!

I've been called every name going, I've had to bite my tongue more times than I can remember. Customers complaining you're not open on time, you're closing too early, they don't want to stand in the queue. Stocktake was always fun- at times, we just put someone on the door to explain that the big 'closed' sign did in fact, confirm that we were closed. This was a favourite, as for once, you could be a little rude if needed.

Refunding items as well, when it's clearly obvious someone's worn it, has no receipts, or it was last sold six years ago.

Looking back, I've never been more glad that I shifted out of retail!

This is why i shop in Waitrose.......the OP, although maybe having a slight point, even comes across as someone that suits a low budget supermarket.
I can imagine her ignoring the customers until she has finished her chat with 'Shaz' and then going for a fag with a queue full of people waiting.

OP...if your job annoys you that much, change it, as it's no fun being confronted with people like you when i am spending money either.

    OP your doing it wrong!

The general public are there to help you make the most of an unrewarding repetitive job (I know I used to work the tills at Morribobs) you need to play some of the following games to help pass the time These are some of the games we played to try and bring a little bit of enjoyment to the job.

These games are only played when the customer deserves it, bit unfair to do it to the majority of normal folk.

    1. Patients
When you can see an angry irate customer queuing at your till tutting and huffing because he has to wait longer than 20 seconds make sure you do a cash bung just as you about to serve them (cash bung is where the money in the till gets put in a little tube and fired down shoot to the cash office). You then need to scan items as if they were made of glass and be very slow and deliberate in your actions (points if they tell you to hurry up)

    2. The managers key
Again used with customers above, this just involves messing the transactions up as many times as is possible making the manager on assistant needed to unlock the screen. (extra points if done in conjunction with game one)

    3. Whispering
Irate customers who shout, shout even louder the more you quieten down to the point where the other customers in the store start to stare at them for screaming (if you can do this and use game one and two you are a god among checkout staff)

    4. Bags Only hand out one bag at a time

    5. Pack unsuitable items in bags together, meat and washing powder is a good combo

    6. Remember there is no such thing as a bad customer, just a new challenge :D

There are lots more games but these need to be played on the shop floor and don't work when sat at a till. Can't you tell I loved my time at Morribobs hehe

All of the above is the EXACT reason you worked in a supermarket.
People only achieve their real level remember, and these games were about there.

Sorry but I think this is rubbish.

I have met loads of people who have got jobs far, far "above" their level.

I have also met loads of very intelligent and erudite people who have jobs far "below" their level.

I'll let you into a secret....no-one forces anyone to work in a supermarket or anywhere else where crap is dished out. Just in case you didn't know.
OP...if your job annoys you that much, change it, as it's no fun being confronted with people like you when i am spending money either.

Such stuoid things to say, are either of you working?

Jobs are not easy to get, and there is no excuse for rudness on a customer or staff members part.
I was once reported in a card shop because a customer couldn't find a card although i explained were they were. She said i was rude because i couldn't leave a q of customers to root for her because she was to lazy to do it herself. I was on my own in the shop and it was a week before christmas.
She was in her early 20s and had a baby and i knew her and know she had never had a job in her life. She hadn't realised who i was and certainly got a lot of hassle from my 2 daughters who she used to socilise with. Cheeky mare, i was paying taxes to keep her and her kid. I think you will find a lot of ignorant customers don't have jobs themselves, and think they have the right to treat staff like dirt.

    It's Aldi, not Aldi's :)
Just like it's Tesco, not Tescos, that winds me up a bit :)

Firstly there is nothing wrong with working in a supermarket, get of your high horse.

Secondly the exact reason I worked in a supermarket was because the hours where flexible and fitted around my further education.

I now have a very good job with the potential to climb the ladder a lot further and you know what I will always play games with people like you who look down at other because they think they are more important.
