Thank you dizzyk. He does like fruit, much more than I do and he does take some to work to eat throughout the day. I'll have to get more for him to make up the quantites of speed food and tub it up like you suggest. Maybe if he switches his breakfast to cereal with nanas or berries instead of toast

He won't do the tomatoes with breakfast as he's not keen on those either (sigh)... but I will, great suggestion, thanks as I struggle to get veggies in at breakfast time.

Can anyone provide any pointers please?

OH is following SW too and eats the same as me but he isn’t losing weight. He has about 6 teas a day with half a sugar so we count this as 3 syns.

    Yesterday his menu was….
    B – 2 toast (B) with butter (3) beans (F) 2 bacon (F)
    L – Banana (F)
D - Spanish Chicken (F) SW potatoes (F) salad (F) (this was a very full big plate)
Snx – Yoghurt banana & Granola Pudding (6)

Cups of tea with half sugar – 7 (3.5) (0.5 A) 10 mins on exercise bike (200 cals)

NB - he doesn’t like…. Pasta, Cheese, Eggs, Noodles, Mushrooms.

The only things I can think of is that he is maybe putting too much butter on his toast and I’m not counting enough syns or that he isn’t eating enough i.e. only a nana for lunch.

Appreciate any advice you have x

Is he having 'normal' bacon? By that I mean standard rashers with a little bit of fat on. Our consultant took great pleasure in telling us that they aren't free unless you cut all the fat off before cooking.....they are 8 syns a rasher :eek::eek:

No prob :) I know it sounds a bit grim, but I have 2 weetabix, instead of using loads of milk I put enough boiling water on to cover them....then just a splash of milk and mix it all up (it saves loads of milk as Im a big tea drinker) then I top it with sliced banana and its really scrummy, you really cant tell theres not much milk in it at all ! then I can graze on strawbs and melon through the morning.

8 syns a rasher of bacon!! Well thats the last time I leave the fat on!!

WI tonight... I know I haven't lost i'm just really hoping I haven't gained! I was good all week and had a few slip ups the weekend. Plus I haven't been drinking much water over the weekend which doesn't help.

Today I had cherries for breakfast (are these free? If so are they speed or SS?)

Lunch I had 3 x Scan bran with LF cottage cheese, is cottage cheese free as long as it's low fat?

Dinner is a chicken stir fry :)

    Hi
Cherries are speed, Cottage cheese is free if very low fat, if you were good all week then hopefully you will get away with the few slip ups over the week end?? ;)

    Trixietoes,

    Is he underestimating syns?

When you say he has butter on his toast, do you mean 'real' butter on low fat marg. The thing is 3 syns worth of butter is very very little. I don't think you could spread it over two slice of toast.

Same with the sugar in tea - is he thinking what difference does it make and putting in an extra wee bit of sugar each time?

You can also mix the 28g cereal (or one weetabix) with fresh fruit and a muller light yoghurt and save all your milk for teas and coffees. Melon, strawberries, raspberries, cooked rhubarb (half a syn!), pineapple, are some of my favourites to eat for breakfast this way
