Unlike other diets or eating plans, the generosity and flexibility of Food Optimising means that it is suitable for practically every dietary requirement or preference, including a gluten-free diet.
Because Food Optimising allows you to choose the foods you wish to eat, it should be easy to incorporate your own requirements into the system. We recommend you always follow the dietary guidance of your health carers regarding which foods you need to avoid and which are suitable for you. You can use the information you have from your dietitian or Coeliac UK* regarding suitable naturally gluten-free foods and specially manufactured gluten-free products and build up your own personal meal plans.
    Gluten-free foods
There is an increasing range of specially manufactured gluten-free products now available including flour, bread, biscuits and pasta. We strive to keep up to date with new and changing products and once we have nutritional information we can add them to our lists. To check how your favourites fit into Food Optimising you can look them up on Syns Online and in your Free Branded Food Book. Simply search under the brand name. Some popular brands of gluten-free products include: Antoinette Savill, Bi-Aglut, Dietary Specialities, Glutafin, Glutano, Granny Ann, Juvela, Lifestyle Healthcare, Orgran, Rite-Diet, Schär, Sunny Vale and Trufree. It is important to note that some of these manufacturers may also produce foods which are not gluten-free, so always check their suitability with your personal records.
    Healthy Extra substitutions and fibre
One particular section of our Food Optimising system, Healthy Extras, may require more careful consideration when planning your meals and snacks. This section encourages you to have a healthy fibre intake and many of the fibre-rich foods listed do contain gluten. However, there are a number of naturally gluten-free Healthy Extra choices, including soups, fruits, nuts and pulses, and we also have some additional options to provide greater choice for our members following a gluten-free diet.
    Healthy Extra alternative choices
Instead of one of the listed Healthy Extras you may wish to:

    • substitute the same weight of any suitable gluten-free cereal for those listed
    • substitute the same weight of any suitable gluten-free bread for a bread options
    • choose 4 plain rice cakes
These alternatives offer greater choice and should not affect rate of weight loss but please note that they may not contain as much fibre as foods listed as true Healthy Extras.

    subtitle_true_healthy_extras.gif
    True Healthy Extras
There are some gluten-free products which do contain sufficient fibre to be considered a true Healthy Extra choice. If you want to extra fibre you can select from the options below.

    Glutafin gluten-free:
    57g fibre multigrain bread rolls

    57g white multigrain bread rolls
    57g fibre loaf

    57g fibre, part-baked loaf
    57g fibre multigrain loaf
    57g white multigrain loaf
    6 high fibre crackers

    Juvela gluten-free:
    57g fibre loaf
    Orgran gluten-free:
28g muesli with fruit and almonds
    Rite-Diet gluten-free:
    57g fibre bread rolls

    57g fibre loaf
    Schär gluten-free:
    28g muesli
Note: Some gluten-free products may still contain wheat starch and would therefore not be suitable for those who also have a wheat intolerance.
We are aware that some people with coeliac disease may not be able tolerate large amounts of insoluble fibre found in high-fibre gluten-free products. Other foods such as fruits, vegetables and pulses are good sources of soluble fibre and you may find choosing these as Free Foods or Healthy Extras a more tolerable way of eating plenty of fibre.
Please note, we are unable to provide any specific advice regarding coeliac disease and would recommend that you always follow the advice and specific dietary recommendations suggested by your doctor or dietitian.
*Coeliac UK provides advice, support and information for people with coeliac disease. They publish regularly updated lists of gluten-free foods. Visit their website at www.coeliac.co.uk

  • Hello all - I'm back from a couple of days in West Wales eating like a madwoman. The last few days have been my treat to me for getting to my (interim) target, and do you know what? I carefully scooped the meat away from the glistening oil in the Indian restaurant food, found it hard to eat anything very sinful the rest of the time (although drinking was NOT a problem!) and was mentally calculating 2/3 superfree all the time! And we walked thru a fish'n'chip shop to the cafe at the rear and the smell of the oil fair turned my stomach

Takeiteazy I am soooo pleased for you and your husband both! :D

Nessie:good things to nibble (preferably when stopped but I have done it on the move): grapes, prawns, those little trays of mixed seafood, raw cauliflower chopped in advance and laid on seat alongside. What I DON'T recommend eating when driving is Velvet Crunch Sweet Chilli snacks, for me at least the chilli really catches my throat and makes me cough alarmingly! However, they are my fave for stationary eating because I have to go slower, and wait until the coughing subsides between crisps :rotfl:

Everybody else, well done, specially screamer for having second thoughts! Off now to restock the fruit bowl:D
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!

I do buy the magazines though

lynz, do you know if the magazines are cheaper if you buy them at class?? I saw on the SW website that the new magazine is out now so will buy it in Tesco tomorrow rather than waiting until Monday's class if it's just the same price.

Also on the SW website, next week is a 'picnic special'.

Just finished the roulade off with the help of hubby & kids, I ended up having 3/6ths :o
dizzy, I added the splenda to the 'cream' as I was worried about the roulade tasting 'eggy' _pale_ Needn't have worried, it was really yummy, hence the 3/6ths scoffed!!

I think it is PMT for me this week (even though i am on contraceptive injection and have no monthly visitor!) as i have been raiding the fridge & choco box! Blooming Fairies!!!

Well done for all the losses x
I know how you feel but doctors wont give me injection anymore due to being sterilized next wed but it was the only thing that helped with PMT. I have been eating anything and everything I can get my hands on so been off the plan since sun and feel cr*p and very tired.

WI today and stayed the same. I feel like giving up till after the op and start again when I feel better but that just and excuse to eat cr*p and feel cr*p. I think I need to kick my back side and get back on track tomorrow. only 18 WI till xmas I am setting myself a target of 21lb off in 18weeks.

Just tried searching for syns online manufacturer - EDDISONS -SHORT FAT BALD BLOKE........came up with nothing

Oh Eddisons are rubbish!! My son lives in an apartment in the centre of Leeds who had Eddisons as the management company (they sold out recently thank heavens). They had similar problems with the gate always breaking and it taking for ever to get it fixed.

They also bought huge plants in massive pot planters and stood one outside each block.......apparently it didn't occur to them to look upwards as they installed these mini forests or they would have noticed that there was no possibility of rain falling on them as they are under an archway. Result? Goodness knows how many pounds worth of plants dead within a few weeks!!!!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Hello everyone. I was on a MSE SW thread a couple of years ago, but gave up. I'm now back on SW, using the on-line Body Optimize and so far so good. I fould the support last time really helpful and would love to join you all again.

Recognize some of the names from before (Hi Consultant, and Mrs McC). Extra Easy for me so far with the very odd green day thrown in.

    Thanks

    Cherry Blossom x

Confused me that did :rotfl: I'd use mashed potato to thicken them, fishcakes usually have spud in them don't they?

Anyway today I have mostly been eating:

    B - weetabix milk [a] coffee

    L - wm roll cheese [a] pickled onion, s/cream [.5], mccoys [8.5]

T - noodles, toms, onion, beans

Snacks - pineapple, melon, muller [might have more later]

    Syns - 9

Just back from short walk [for me], while watching my son doing his fitness run. He starts pre season training next week and typical teenager has done nothing since breaking up from school.
Its not what you do but the way that you do it, thats what get results :T
