Hi, I'm an ex slimming world member, having joined Maria's group in Hazel Grove in November 2007. I went every week until March 2008, and lost almost a stone. Since then I've tried to back off and on but I'm struggling to keep myself motivated and keep going off the rails a bit!

I'm going away to Zante in 5 weeks and I really want to lose some weight before I go. I'm currently heavier than I've ever been in my life, I weight 10 and a half stone, which isn't a massive amount I know, but I'm only 5ft 3 and I do look like I need to lose weight. I used to always be a size 10, but then went up to a size 12 after the birth of my two daughters, and now I'm 38 and I just keep going up and up. Even my 12's are starting to feel tight on me.

I've started following my slimming world book again, though I haven't gone back to Maria's group yet, but I think I will do next week and join again.

My downfall is when I'm at home when I get in from work. I can be really good during the day, I eat healthy all day at work and most of the time manage just on free foods and my healthy a's and b's ... and then I get in from work and I'm starving hungry and spoil my good day at work by eating biscuits from the tin, a pack (or two of crisps), chunks of cheese, anything I can snack on while I am waiting for tea to cook or waiting for my boyfriend to come round and have tea with me.

I wonder if any of you fellow slimming world members out there can give me some good tips to snack on when I get in from work, or ways to take my mind off naughty food when I'm at home, to stick to my plan. I'm really beginning to think I've got a problem with it. I know it's bad for me, and I know I'll be depressed about it when I've eaten it, but I just do it anyway.

I desperately want to lose weight and inches before my holiday, so any advice would really be appreciated.

    Julie :o

After reading your posts its suddenly struck a chord with me that I may have a problem with wheat/bread as the last few days I've been having toast for breakfast and have felt really bloated. Gonna knock it on the head for a few days and see what happens.

I've been reading this thread for about a month now and am so glad that I found it - its great to see a lovely bunch of folks encouraging each other and sharing the stresses as well as their successes - thank you all for the motivation :)

I'm off to the metrocentre tonight and am thinking of treating myself to a chocolate milkshake from mcdonalds - can anyone tell me how many syns in the various sizes please? Many thanks

Hi Julie, you know what, if I had crisps and biscuits in the house I would eat them too, get them gone if you can! I think that having just one biscuit, or just one crisp doesn't work as your brain just makes you crave more and more, especially with sugar!
Maybe you need to eat lunch later or have a mid-afternoon snack to get you over that time. I find that if I have an apple or an alpen light bar on my way home then I can cope until dinner time. Also, having a bottle of water to drink makes me feel a lot more full, I am trying at the mo to have 1.5 litres of water during the day and it is really helping me not to crave too much. Mini milk lollies or Jubbly lollies are only 1 syn (I think!) and they take a while to eat. I like chomping on a whole carrot too, if you get nice fresh sweet crunchy ones they are pretty delish. I know some other people make up veg sticks with carrot, celery, cucumber etc and then make up a dip and have it in the fridge, home made hummus or quark with other flavourings in it.

    All the best!

Fast forward plan until thursday - Friday will be back to normal as dress fitting in town (jacket pot & beans for lunch! with Coffee!) & can treat myself to a SW friendly takaeaway. I am getting a little annoyed with having to measure absolutley everything! Be nice not to.

But i do reccommend to anyone who is getting annoyed and not loosing as much as they would like to drink more water - i have to drink 500ml each morning, afternoon and evening - i reckon it had something to do with my slow weight loss before (never been a great drinker in any sense!)

    Mcdonalds Chocolate Milkshake

    Small - 10.5 syns
    Medium - 19 syns
    Large - 25.5 syns

You will probably be better off with McFlurry

Dairy Milk - 16 syns each
    Crunchie - 16 syns each
    Smarties - 15.5 syns each
