Does she get lots of attention when she doesn't eat things?
Does either you or your partner have issues with food i.e. make comments about not liking foods infront of her?
Are meal time really stressful for you now?
Ok try having fruit about the house (where she can help herself to it), see if you can get her to smell it. Then if you going to have a piece try and see if she'll lick it. If you can make a game of it so much the better but don't try and get her to bite it, just let her get use to it first. Bananas are a nice easy fruit for children to get started on.
Don't cook special stuff just for her, give her the same as you, and eat at the same time as you but try not to kick up a fuss when she wont eat it. If she doesn't eat it, leave it on the table and when in an hour she says she's hungry point out her food is still on the table or she can have some fruit.
Hard as it sounds don't back down and give her sweeties, she wont starve herself. Do say well done when she tries something new. It's hardest on you but if you stick to your guns, you will get there but it will be hard very hard on you.
Good luck.
We've had one poster already say their child went 11 days on this principle, what would you say a fair limit would be to enforce the "that or nothing rule", before admitting they might indeed starve themselves, as reading what the op has written, I suspect their daughter wouldn't suddenly cave in either.
Two weeks, three weeks? (ignoring the fact the original meal may well have gone off by this time)0 -
Does it make a difference if you use pasta instead, or use a different sauce?

Does she get lots of attention when she doesn't eat things? Not really anymore than usual, I've always known that we shouldn't makea fuss about it so we've tended to give her what she would eat instead of trying to persuade her to eat new things.
Does either you or your partner have issues with food i.e. make comments about not liking foods infront of her? Not that I can think of but I'll make sure I keep an ear out incase we do say things like that!
Are meal time really stressful for you now? They are more stressful for OH. He gets really frustrated becasue sometimes she'll sit at the table only to ask to get down...and asking and asking and asking

No i don't have othern children and i can totally appreciate that there are times when you might need/want to do this. We are going to try to reward in ways other than food.
I am quite suprised you see this as harsh though. I see it as relaxed! She can eat what she wants when she wants no pressure no fuss its entirely her call. But as i say i'm a first time mum so quite prepared to see how things develop - i just like to have a plan
I don't see it as 'harsh' as that's how I planned to be but lots of other parents told me I was being a tad OTT as it was only a few buttons, they won't do any harm blah blah blah...
What's that saying about the best laid plans...??!Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

My DS doesn't like much sauce at all. So when we have spaghetti bolognaise, etc, I have to just give him a couple of spoonfulswith a lot of pasta, or he won't eat it.0

My DS after not eating fromage frais for weeks, has just demolished 3/4 of one of my Activia yoghurts. So there is hope. :j0

I have a 4yo who would only eat waffles, smilies, chips, raisins, biscuits, yoghurts and the edge of dry bread.
You might increase the protein content of the yogurt if you thicken it with some whey powder, raisins are a fruit - you might be able to get him to try some other dried fruits - and if it's wholemeal bread or you could move from chips to wedges with skin on, it's not actually that unbalanced a diet.My theory is this, I have never seen a 40 year old eating waffles and smilies
I could think of one or two twenty-year-olds. :rotfl:A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Sorry I haven't had the will to go through the whole thread and you may already have tried this... BUT... how about getting her involved in making dinner? I'm not talking 5 course meal here but buy some plain pizza bases, some tomato pure and cheese and some ham/veg/whatever for topping. Let her help make her own pizza and watch it cook. Even silly things like making a happy face on the pizza with the toppings...
Don't do what my grand parents did... pander to my every whim! My nan would cook me a seperate meal to everyone else if I didn't fancy what she'd cooked!
No wonder I was a super fussy eater till about 15 really...Now the only thing I really won't eat is fish...
