Not started planting here yet apart from Arctic tomatoes on the windowsill (Latah is the variety). Will wait until mid April I think.
Hennies are cool, wont eat anything that isnt a layers pellet though. They sit inside the coop most of the time because of the wind, and have made a wee dust bath in the soil up at the top end. They have amazingly long necks, like pheasants, dont they?0 -
Sending nice calm healing vibes D3 for all your wee family x0

Hello Mardatha
Congatulations on getting the chickens.
When they start producing you could follow the idea of a friend of ours, she's just brought round six eggs & the label on the box said "Specially laid for you by Marmalade, Shadow & Pepsi." How special is that?

There's a real feeling of spring in the air, with the buds starting on the various fruit bushes on the plot, and the veggies starting to poke through in the garden. THe veg bed in the garden actually has some green in it now as the radishes have sprouted, and I planted out some broad beans and cabbages. I have a feeling that I will need a good haul from my efforts outdoors this year, so good to see the green.
And even nicer, DH is looking for me to bring home some of the baby leeks at the weekend for a recipe (basically, half slices of Lidl parma ham wrapped around stalks of leeks, and the whole lot covered in a cheese sauce and baked). Very frugal, and I have plenty of leeks to do it a few times.
Good luck with the chicks Mardatha! Will be watching for any hints as MIL is about to get some too (it was our idea, but I am soooo jealous as we don't have room).GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

Annie and Ginny I grew celery last year and my god it was vile *puking icon here* think I needed more watering someone has suggested to grow it in pots and keep it stood in water so it won't go bitter..couldn't get rid of the taste for days
:o
((((((hugs to you and your family))))))))
Don't fancy bitter celery so off to find growing tips in my large private library of gardening books!
Have plenty of pots so can pop a few in there if it helps.
Mardatha.........eggs by 'Mad Arthur and the RV' sounds right:D

Sorry to hear about your dad, D&DD - must be so worrying for you and for your mum.
My mum suddenly said out of the blue about this time last year, "I am the same age my mother was when Daddy died, and Daddy (my dad) is the same age he was." I think of my parents as still young, whereas my grandparents were somehow much older at the equivalent age, if you know what I mean. Her saying that was somehow very shocking, as I still feel as if they've both got literally years left in them yet.
So massive hugs to you and yours - and hope all goes well for your DS. I feel you need chocolate. Mardatha always has some and she's concentrating on her new hennies at the moment, so if you're quick... :rotfl:0 -
O no I'm not !0

3D - hope all is ok with your dad, I should think he gave you all quite a turn! xx
Planning a big burst in the garden at the weekend, so fingers all crossed that the sunshine stays with us for a bit (and that some of it reaches Mar's artic parts of Scotland!)
Had scan yesterday, and am having a spudette, kids are all excited about another sister, as am I! Though I didn't mind which flavour it was, so long as its healthy - and scan appears to confirm that all bits are in the right places and present in the correct numbers!
Also had AF order arrive yesterday, we are now fully stocked on noodles, wraps and couscous, probably for about the next year! Will stick most of it in cupboard under the stairs once I've made some room! At least I know that when babe arrives nobody is going to go hungry waiting for me to produce food! Actually kids are all quite capable cooks, thankfully, so starvation would be extremely unlikely! Best friend is back to giggling at my siege mentality, or possibly my mentalness lol, though did not refuse the offer of a selection of bits from the order - I shall convert the world one person at a time!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
