    Isn't that Mad Arthur?? :rotfl:

What kinds of food have you bought? Do you mean you literally won't be visiting a shop for the next X months? Or only going there for bits and bobs?

I could realistically survive snowed in the house for about 3 weeks, eating lots of pasta dishes and risottos lol! Would love some hints and tips so I shop less :)

Will be visiting the village shop for fresh fruit and veg and the village butcher for meat, but thats about

I was wondering one day why they dont teach budgeting and how to run a house in school - and then I thought I bet half the teachers are in debt up to their eyeballs with cards and loans too - that would be hard to teach for them!
This would be much more useful than a lot of the stuff that is taught.

basic cookery from scratch would be a good subject too, or how to shop??? I made 2 dozen scones yesterday, 52p bag of flour, handful or 2 of organic currants reduced to 50p a kilo in the garden centre, 42p marg and a bit of sugar. very little effort, very little time = nice rewards - basic maths!

I ran a school bank at the kids primary school ( long after they left) and you could see the children who had sense, they brought their pennies every week and we made a fuss of them and I think it was good for them.

Martin's petition to make financial education a part of the curriculum in schools had enough signatures to get the debate in the Commons, its next week I think :)

I googled it :rotfl: my goodness there really is everything you need on the www :T So basically-

    2 shoulders
    2 legs
    2 racks of chops
    1 loin
    2 breasts
    2 kidneys
    liver

All i need to do now is check the prices of the joints tomorrow! and I will let you all know how much profit we are being robbed to pay the supermarkets!

You need to factor in the following costs

    transport to abbatoir
    cost of slaughter and butchering
    transport to supermarket
supermarket overheads .....cost of building costs of running a building , wages etc etc

and then ,because after all they arent a charity ,their profit

so yes of course its going to work out far more then the original cost of the lamb

    Me too.

Have lots of stores now, so am trying to manage with the bare minimum of shopping. I'm not so hot on the gardening and keeping animals side of things, but am trying to make things rather than buy them where possible.

(Came unstuck last week though - BOUGHT a NEW outfit for DGD's wedding!)
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!

I got the stash built up twice and both times one of us got ill and couldn't eat certain things and I had to start all over again. But the basics are still ok -
I keep a good store of porridge - for breakfast, flapjacks and oatcakes.
I keep a good store of lentils, barley, and stock cubes - for soup and stews.
I keep 10/12kgs of flour for bread, min 6 jars of jam, and tins of dried milk.
I keep a min of 20 boxes of teabags (ok well I like my tea LOL!)
I keep a variety of tins - just a few each of soup/stew/cold meat, not loads.
I keep 18 months calor gas and 2 coalboxes full of coal.
I got hens now for eggs :)
We can last out a while without needing a shop, and we can live ok without elect, apart from losing the food in the freezer. Cooking is calor gas and heating is coal. So that thread really helped me and I was glad of all the helpful suggestions people posted on there.
