Its certainly very much in living memory to have lost children in infancy. My father was one of 9 children (but he counts it as 7 - because 2 died when young).
Both my parents were from families of 7 although each had a sibling die in infancy.
I am named after my mums sibling.
My dad actually contracted TB when he was a young child and told us of how he lived in the tin shed at the bottom of the garden, and he lost a lung, he was born in 1934 so this would have been probably during or just after WW2.
DH's parents were both from families of 13 but again siblings were lost on both sides, DH's father was the youngest and DH's grandfather was lost down the Scottish mines before FIL was born in 1917 so the elder brother became the father figure. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -

Was quite surprised, had bulk bought when it was last on offer, obviously quite a while ago, but needed some more last week, not impressed! Somehow I feel that sneaking price rises into veg oil is just a way of paying for cuts and offers on all the luxury bits I don't actually need!
Mardatha, I loved dripping as a kid, my nan always had a large silver bowl of it in the larder, and I would stand in there eating it off a spoon until someone caught me! My bunch roll their eyes when I tell them stuff like this, I'm sure they think I was alive in prehistoric times!

I'm guessing that there may well have been children lost in infancy but those who survived are living into their late seventies and even late eighties. My paternal great-grandad was still working aged 69 on the land and was so fit that his youngest sons, in their twenties, couldn't keep up with him. He died of a head injury after being kicked by a horse he was driving in a cart. If you look at old records, a lot of people died in a similar way.:(
It's amazing how our family's number of children has shrunk as we went thru the 20th century; those siblings from the families of 11 and 6 had between 2 and 3 children each and their children have had, respectively, none or only one, and maximum of 2 on the other side of the family.
My great-gran named my grandad after her beloved brother who died in WW1. Her OH didn't rate the name and said that she could call him what she liked but he would call the boy Jack. And so it went for 83 years. Granded lived in the same village all his life and it was only at his funeral that most people discovered his given name!
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Feeling pretty chuffed today, as we spend so much time in the house and awake (due to OH) we have sky, but yesterday decided the latest price increase was the final straw - took advice from someone off here (cannot for the life of me remember who! ) so rang and said we wanted to leave - got the bill cut by half for 6 months - Yay - as 11 year loyal customers.
Dd is now on her new clean, mould free house and Dgs has slept through the last 2 nights, his chest is clear as a bell and Dd and sil are much happier people. Its actually warm when you go in and seems lighter too. I used to dread when it was my turn to pick him up from the childminder and take him home to bed for her now its a pleasure. Ds signs for his new place anytime soon and should be moving in at beginning of April, I can feel my bills going down as I type :rotfl:

Totally brilliant and I am feeling so guilty now because I dont save every tiny bone and scrap for the stockpot !0 -
Your chickens will get rid of all but the bones hunny. Mine ate everything I could throw at them. They love pilchards by the way, oil and all - thats why mine were so healthy, herbs, veg and cod liver oil, then once a week a cheap tin of pilchards. Remember corn is like sweeties to them and it makes them fat and too lazy to lay.
D&DD somewhere I have a recipe for dog biscuits, very cheap and my friends dog went mad for them, will dig out the recipe for you.Clearing the junk to travel light

D&DD will have a look tonight, they have to be cheaper to make than buy?
No Mardatha,, the eggs don't taste fishy, just rich golden yolks from the herbs and leftover veg and very contented hens from their healthy diet. I wonder if we can get a deduction on our rates as we all have empty wheely bins?
Just been to Mr S and got very annoyed with a woman who was staking out the whoopsies waiting for final reductions, so sent OH back while I was in the queue and he got 4 huge pork chops for 1.99. Its nice to get a bargain but you have to have manners and blocking the poor boy while he was working is just wrong.Clearing the junk to travel light
