Hi all. This morning i am considerably less angry, slightly sulky but back on track. Read some good advice from you all last night, thanks, and took the hippopotadog out for an extra long walk as suggested. Ive no intention at all of letting that be the end of the journey, you lot will have to put up with me for a long time yet! Today I retrieved the box, cake remains (and spoon!) from the bin to do a "damage assesment" and reckoned up that i need to add another 2900 calories into my diary for yesterday.
Mazza: good intentions? well I hope they were (although why would anybody take a 16 portion cake to someone that they knew was on their own and on a diet?) they can have my benefit of the doubt this time.

Puddings, your old friend....I would submit that she is no friend at all, but an enemy. A cake that size for one person!!! Thank goodness there is no one in my world who would do such a thing.

I agree with all the others - you were put in an impossible position and, given that we are none of us saints, you reacted in a completely logical and predictable way. Why in the name of all that's holy would any 'friend' do such a thing? If she attempts this again on another birthday, have you thought what your response might be?

Tomorrow is another day..but isn't it sad. A bunch of flowers would have been far better. Why can't people see that?

Thanks puddings. I have saved that away for future reference :rotfl:

Aww Margaret. Don't be too hard on the friend. The same could be said for my m8s who encourage me to drink beer.

Is there a local place that sells big birthday cakes cheaper perhaps? We have a lightbody's factory warehouse closeby, who make all the cakes for Asda etc. Even all the lovely thornton's ones. I've seen me buying one of those for the kids just when I'm feeling lazy, you get them for a couple of quid rather than the tenner in the shops.

Yuk, that serves me right for eating a ready meal, no lectures please I couldn't face cooking from scratch tonight. Got a ww spinach, ricotta and cannelloni meal. Had one fromanother brand and it was yummy - this was just unbelievably bland. Could taste a hint of tomato and a dusting of herbs but that was it and the pasta was horribly thick. Won't be having that again, the other ww products I've had have been ok. Oh well back to putting some effort into my food.

well it dosen't look like it is going to be a very successful week for me this week, i had a cold which has now gone onto my chest - i can't stop coughing and wheezing and it is making me go really lightheaded at times so am off sick from work and of course cannot do any excercise - why is it that when u can't excercise is the time that you really want to! hope those that are also not too well are starting to feel better.

likewise bex. Well with the no exercise. No work for 2 weeks. Wish I had got doc to check my throat when I was there yesterday, was just a wee bit sore then. Between last night and today it's all swollen up. The most I managed to eat/drink was a fab ice lolly. Could be doing with going back to bed, but it's mum's bday tomorrow, so will need to go get her a bunch of flowers and card. Won't be very much as i just aint in the mood. Sorry mam!!! Will get some plain fruit lollies when I'm out and some throat spray, hopefully that will set me right :)

Maz - could you go swimming instead? would take the pressure of your knee?

Vixstar - i get through quite a few ready meals and agree that some of the ww ones are a [STRIKE]bit[/STRIKE]lot naff. asda do a range of about 20 ready meals in pouches, (in the chiller not the freezer) all fresh ingredients, microwave 4 minutes to steam them, much tastier than the frozen ones...

You know me well - perhaps you could pass that on to my Grandad's current care home?

The matron who used to run the care home and it had excellent reviews (and was an excellent care home) left in April. Since then things have hit rock bottom and Mum and I spent most of yesterday on the phone to the CSSIW. The matron in the post at present has lied, covered up, misled us and dismissed concerns etc. They have not informed us of hospital appointments and other things but the final straw was when we heard from an ex care worker that Grandad's nails had been cut so short they were bleeding - and they didn't try to clean him up or treat him just left him with blood everywhere.

To say Mum is feeling guilty and upset in an understatement.
