A big fat 29stone hello to FrankM :hello:
whichever weight loss plan you're trying Frank, theres a whole bunch of friendly people on here that will help you through the ups and downs, it's all about helping each other out,so just take things day by day and post how things are going for you on here as regular as you can : -)
Lauraland - well done on your loss this weekEric_Pisch wrote: »you store 50g of water for every 1g of salt you eat
it doesn't just affect blood pressure, it slows down your metabolism and is linked to kidney damage and congestive heart failure.
Saying that my biggest hurdle is portion control so i avoid cooking whenever theres a "preportioned" tv dinner in the freezer or "preportioned" tin of soup in the cupboard! I know that theres salt added to a lot of those foods but its the lesser of two evils.
And so talking about salt... ive always picked tins of tuna that are in brine - do you think it would be better to get the ones in oil?Mazza111 wrote:Have taken to trying to force myself to eat weetabix or porridge for breakfast, so i'm not hungry at work. Weetabix, erm i once scoffed a box of 24 all at once in a late night binge and made myself fairly ill the day after!
As for chocolate, try swapping it for a couple of boiled sweets: far fewer calories, still get the sugar rush and a boiled sweet lasts much longer than a piece of choc :-)0 -
Eric, we all do things that aren't good for us. My biggest baddies, smoking, salt, crisps and lurpak. Salt is way down my list of baddies. Oh I forgot the booze too :rotfl:Think it was that bottle of Glayva my dd and myself polished off last night that made me forget :rotfl: So as you can see, I'll stick with my salt. But on the bright side, I am trying to cut down on the lurpak and crisps. Have taken to trying to force myself to eat weetabix or porridge for breakfast, so i'm not hungry at work. Also leaving my purse in the car again so I won't be tempted at the vending machine. I dont :A not had a bad thing for 30 weeks :A
and its not because I am being a martyr or that I am denying myself things, its the realisation that dieting does not work and to resolve the problem i need to make permanent lifestyle changes, plus the fact whats the point of being good for a few days only to blow it, waste of time imo
and honestly after a month of being detoxed from processed crap, i dont want it0 -
wow Eric, i had no idea. I switched to losalt years ago simply because of the blood pressure thing, and hardly never use it anyway, but i had no idea that salt affected metabolism at all.

Mazza thats a really good tip... if you dont have any cash in your pocket or purse then you cant use the vending machine or call at the takeaway or nip into the shop for a packet of biscuits, even if you've lost every ounce of willpower.

portion control is critical, but eating the right foods is more important, you can have big meals and not feel hungry if you eat the right things, its critical to keep a food diary. Being as large as you are means your BMR is pretty high so you do not need to start of on "normal" sized meals. I started off on giant meals, my phase one is a two week detox from processed food, my phase two is a gradual reduction of meal sizes to a more normal amount over the next 10 weeks, but there still a decent size but they do come in to my daily calorie allowance.
Tuna is easy, you can get it in spring water with no oil or salt.
As for the money business, if your fighting urges to buy food YOU WILL FAIL your diet eventually, no one can have that kind of self control for ever.
I have not had one bad thing in 30 weeks, is my self control super human? no its pretty weak as proved by the fact i got to the size of the Hindenburg. So how have I done this? By detoxing from processed food (high - salt, sugar, fat)(and pretty much anything processed as your body absorbs it far to fast) to kill the cravings and then by having a reduced carb diet that only includes low GI carbs I have turned my insulin levels on there head, and with flat insulin levels 98% of your "hunger" cravings vanish.
Theres no tricks to my system, no starving yourself, no mind games, no magic bullet, just science and healthy eating. For me the final proof is the fact my blood results become close to perfect, which shows to me its a healthy lifestyle.0 -
Eric, tbh some of us don't have time to avoid processed foods altogether. Some of us don't want to. I certainly don't have time to cook from scratch every day. Not with work, a disabled mother and a 14 yr old that eats like a horse to look after.
Puddings that's actually a good idea for those who crave sweet things. Now come up with a tip to replace my flame grilled steak McCoys :rotfl: A full box of weetabix? Bloody hell, u and my sister could be twins with binges like that. Have u addressed why u binge? I know that's a very personal question, don't answer it if you don't want to, but once it's addressed hopefully it should be easier to deal with? Well that's my theory anyhoo, probably talking out my rear end:rotfl:
I am such a fickle eater Eric, that my processed foods are a necessity. Or I'd be stuck with the same old thing day in and day out. Not keen on pasta dishes (unless it's macaroni cheese). Don't like potatoes much, unless they are chipped, not a big fan of rice. Fruit, not a big fan, tho I try to force myself to have my 5 a day *puke* Veg I do like, I just don't have time to stand and prepare it all the time. Meat, I love, but again, the finances and time don't allow for it every day. For those days, in comes things like battered chicken, sausages etc. Try to bulk those meals up by turning sausages into casseroles with lots of (frozen) veg. On the salt thing, I try not to add salt when cooking, as I would prefer the kids to be as low salt as possible, so I pile it on afterwards
So, I think anyone would be quite bored with my diet if it didn't include processed foods. Now that I've cut chocolate out my diet altogether, I don't miss it. Certain times of the month, yes I could kill for chocolate, but that's a woman thing and won't give in. Cutting a lot of that out my diet has helped me lose 4 stone, so I must be doing something right. Yes I did put a stone back on, but I shall put that down to external factors, like my x being a prat and my knee injury which seen me grounded at work. Now I'm back on the move (despite still having some pain), the weight is slowly starting to come off again.
Step for next week, is to save the lurpak for special occasions. So no lurpak at all until my son's bday on friday. I will have to force myself to have a slice of his cake tho :A Although, I am trying to persuade him into a home made cake rather than a shop bought one. Will be looking to sary's fb page for some inspiration4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Mazza and puddings - for many years at work I did the same thing - never took any cash out with me and then couldn;'t buy sweets from the corner shops. Helped me kick my choc habit for a month. Got back on the choc eventually but good to know I can kick if it need be.
Had a lovely weekend, but unfortunately it involved a big piece of carrott cake from a lovely bakery near me, and a packet of jammy dodgers. OH eats and eats and that encourages me to do the same
Still hoping to behave myself this week, problem is that yet again I find myself having agreed to meet up with people durnig the week in restaurants, bars etc. It's so hard to diet properly (or do an eating plan like SW) when you know you're going to have to chose something 'bad' in pizza express or strada for example. But my friends and I dont have much time to see each other any more so we always meet for dinner together every now and then to catch up. Just means I end up scoffing pizza and cocktails!
Will aim to stick to the plan whilst at home though, so the dining out is not too much of a disaster.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

Fred- please can you put all my numbers to zero on the chart? I'm feeling a bit miffed about the last few weeks (also can't remember my original weight as i didnt write it down so hard to work out losses/gains) so I want to start again from scratch if that's ok?
I am going to weigh myself today and make that my official 'start weight' (10st6) and then post a sts or loss or gain Weds as usual (aim - 10st by end of aug, 9.7 end of sept, 9st end of Oct! - good luck me, can see myself falling off the wagon a good few times till then!)
Hope that's okBetty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

HI all - just back from a week away in Devon and what a lot of catch-up reading to do! Welcome to all the newbies! and well done all of you for some great losses!
I haven't jumped on the scales yet but we had a very active week -lots of walking, swimming, some cycling (too many hills in Devon!) plus a surfing lesson in Bude in the pouring rain which was hilarious - I was laughing so hard I kept falling off! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:My arms ached for 2 days afterwards - those boards aren't heavy but are a b****r to carry! Totally off-piste on the eating plan but I'm hoping all the activity will have combatted those delicious Devon cream teas:D
Now that I'm "between contracts" I can get my life back and will go back to the early morning swims, perhaps alternating with some gentle early morning jogging. I wake up early anyway so may as well make the most of the light mornings!!
I've had another email from my friend asking me to go to Paris with her in October so I've got a new incentive to go for!!£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

I'm so disappointed in myself, I have eaten so much krap this weekend!
However, back on track this week...0 -
ditto alona - day 1 yet again!Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

alona and Betty - it's the start of a new week, so don't dwell on the carpage you've had, but plan for a much healthier week. Most of us will falter, especially if it involves socialising, at some time or another. Far better to use it as an incentive to stay on the straight and narrow afterwards, than to see it as an excuse to keep on eating rubbish, because you've probably undone all the good you did, etc.
Hezza - I had a couple of lovely holidays in the Bude area, and last year took my lot all down to St. Ives in Cornwall, and they loved the surfing. We had scones everyday, but all the walking we did seemed to combat any weight we might have gained. So long as you were active, and it sounds like you did loads, you'll be fine. It was a holiday anyway, so we can all let our hair down once in a while. It sounds like you have a good healthy plan lined up already anyway.
Mazza - how was it going back to work? Did you get a nice long walk in?
Well I'm still on the enforced soup & yogurt diet at the mo. No idea when this throat is going to get better. It almost feels like I have something permanently stuck in the back of my throat, so I don't really feel like I want to swallow anything. I only eat when my tummy grumbles and hisses so much that I have to right now. I know that's not an ideal way to be, but believe me, I've never struggled to shove food in my gob before, so I must be ill!!! I did just manage to eat a banana, which slid down smoothly enough. I may try to eat some pasta later, if it'll go down. Sipping hot tea is nice and soothing though, so I'm doing lots of that.
Start of the new month means I am now going to focus fully on the 5lb challenge. I've decided that will give me a good monthly target to be aiming for, and it should easily be do-able, if I stay on track.
Today I've ordered some clothes to try on for a wedding I'm going to this weekend. It is the most horrible feeling having to choose something you think will 'do', rather than what you think looks really nice, but the really nice looking stuff would really only look OK on a stick insect, and my short, dumpy stature wouldn't carry it off. I feel a bit sorry for my OH, who looks so nice whatever he wears, having to go along with an oompa loompa! lolOne day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0
