STS yet again. But I'm not too worried about it. It obviously takes much longer as you get older. I wouldn't have believed that to be true, but it does seem to be, in my case at least. Being much less active than in the days when I was up and off out to work, even the little spurts of exercise I have, aqua-aerobics once a week, a swimming lesson, gym a couple of times a week, does not compare with the normal level of activity I was used to.
I really don't over-eat, and on the level of food that I eat, I should be able to lose weight. I 'counted calories' for a year and more, and I now think I've got the whole thing down to a fine art. I can do it without counting every last mouthful. We've just had breakfast and I had a grilled sliced tomato on toast with one rasher of bacon. This is typical. Or I might have a boiled egg with a slice of toast. We'll probably have lunch about 2 pm depending on how we feel. We discovered this 'meals-on-wheels' type food some time ago https://www.lookwhatwefound.co.uk We had one of these meals yesterday, with green veg and an orange to follow.
We sometimes go to events at church - quite recently there was a barbecue in the church garden, which was very sociable and enjoyable. The people there who do the food know about me! There is always fresh fruit salad as an option. Cup of tea after Sunday morning service, but no biscuits. And no cake or anything of that sort. So, the way I eat, my weight should not be a problem. It's just gonna be slooooow, that's all.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I can't believe you took your own dinner -what dedication! I live by the sea now so i am hoping fish and chips will become less appealing with time!!
We occasionally have fish, but without the chips. I felt a bit odd the first time we asked for it, but the people in the fish-and-chip shop never batted an eyelid.
There are places which advertise 'OAP specials' by which they mean: fish, chips, bread-and-butter and cup of tea. We wouldn't buy that. Even if we went there we'd still ask for fish only, none of the rest of it. Maybe a pickled gherkin with it, but I could not possibly manage all those chips AND bread-and-butter! White bread too - I couldn't eat it.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

alliwant:( What dreadful news for you to cope with. It was bad enough when my mum has a stroke this summer; it feels like the foundations you stand on are slipping away and everything will come crashing down. Can only send hugs and hopes that you find some superhuman strength to get through this time.
Eric - fantastic news the proceedure went ahead and was sucessful. Sorry it means no exercise for a while; that's tough but at least your heart is fixed eh:T.
Vix - sorry not to reply sooner re breakfast: some great suggestions made. You could try prridge with the rice milk as it is quite sweet. It will taste differnt but potetially delicious.
I still thim=nk the best thing about breakfast is to get away form the standar idea that breakfast must mean cerael: a very modern UK/USA invention and not so common I believe in Europe o elsewhere.
For breakfast this morning I ha a pint of freshly made raw veg smootie with pineapple and honey. Very filling and tasty. Sometimes I'll have rice and fish that I ccoked the day before.
I agree with Eric that it is unrealistice to not be hungry between 8am and 1pm. Take in a preplaned healthy snack for mid morning. Howabout acoulle of bananas?
Margaret - I think my body is on the same go slow as you and I have settled for maybe losing a lb a month and being pleased with that. If I could lose another 2 lbs by xmas I would be thrilled as this would take me down in to the next stone bracket.
1lb loss for me today fred, thanks.
This makes me 'only' 1 stone over my offical top bmi weight:D. BMI isn't always the best guideline but i find it quite a useful one for myself. I am now in the lower half of the 'overweight' range. So nearer being a healthy weight than obese.
PS Margaret, surely you meant the chippy never battered an eyelid.:D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Alli - my heart goes out to you, it must be a very difficult thingto have to go through.
After being stuck on a plateau for well over a week, my final weigh in was a +2lb gain
Ive walked over 30 miles this week and stuck reasonably well to the diet so all i can say is grrr.
Next week will simply have to walk further and faster and become even more of a salad junkie than i already am
That so reminds me once a long time ago for one week OH decided he would walk to work 6 miles there and 6 miles back, he did not want to give up food and I could not exercise like him so it was a competition to see who lost the weight that way doing it for one week.
One week later I had lost 4lb and he had lost 1lb, he never did it again:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Hello everyone,
So first post here for myself in lose weight thread. I decided about almost 4 weeks ago that I would go and join slimming world. There is a wedding coming up in May that I would like to look a little slimmer for and thought that with a target so far away I could actually do something about it.
Ofcourse when I got on the scales what my weight was, was a little shocking. I'm 5ft2" and the scales reflected a weight of 13st 3lbs.
I was a little surprised, yes, I didn't think I was that bad considering I'm pretty active and take part in Bikram Yoga frequently during the week, not to mention that I wear a size 12 in clothing and the top half is going down to a size 10 in some shops. I think I'm the only person who weighs that much and can put on a size 12. I thought it would be nice to be a size 10 all over for the wedding.
So I thought I'd give slimming world a try, in the first week I lost 5lbs, in the second week I lost 3lbs and in the third week I put on 1/2lb.
This third week has actually greatly upset me because the only thing I did any differently to the previous two weeks was exercise more, managing to get to get to 4 yoga classes that week. So how could I have put on a 1/2lb???
This now has me slightly worried, if I worked hard and stuck to the plan and put on 1/2lb what's going to happen over the next two weekends?
I have guests over this weekend and a weekend break away the following weekend. As much as I'll be sticking to the plan on at least on one occasion each weekend I'm going to have to eat out. I'll be trying to pick the best choices on each menu and use sins etc but I am worried
Shall keep you all updated with my progress, it's going to be one long slow haul lol.0 -
Welcome Sweetie
Always good to see another "Foodie" on the boards. We all try to encourage each other to lose a bit of weight here and there (although, im struggling a bit at the moment!). We have a good bit of competition going on at the moment, which is also good fun.
Look forward to seeing your postings and good luck on your loss!!!0 -

I totally agree - breakfast is my least fave meal of the day coz it's limited to cereal and toast, that just doesn't fill me up - so i am toally up for trying new things. I am thinking of making a breakfast couscous with fruit in - hopefully that'll be nice. If i have cereal it's guaranteed i'll have something like eggs at about 11.30 coz i'll be starving!!
Hi Sweetie - I am doing SW too -there's a healpful thread here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2705971
and if you are worried bout gaining weight on the plan they will definately have some good advice.
Not that you shouldn't stick round here too - this lot are fab inspiration for eating well and exercising -and a kick up the bum when needed! But the SW board is good for specific queries regarding the plan.
I am currently tucking in to some more of my lovely spicy carrot soup - it's addictive!! Added some low fat fromage frais this time and it's soooo creamy and yummy!!Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

hi everyone,
well done all you lucky losers this week .Im afraid I STS this week such a disappointment
Not much hope next week as I have a family weeks holiday planned and a party too .Im hoping all the shopping trips and outings cancel out the eating :rotfl:Must try to do better !!!!0 -
Afternoon everyone
Lots to catch up on here. I have been busy reading the SW thread, thanks BettyI might be asking you and neilersmc some questions! Prepare yourself, both of you! There is a group near me tonight, and I don't know whether to join, just go tonight, and get my book and go through the induction thing, so I get a better understanding. Thing is, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to go every week. I remember working out how much WW cost me a couple of years ago! Ouch! I'm intrigued. I have never been able to work out how you can eat as much as you like of something and still lose weight!
Sweetie, you've done really well so far. Keep at it.
AllIwantSo sorry to hear your news. Thinking of you, xx
STS this week Fred.
I was exactly the same (but honestly I haven't been trying too hard!)
I don't know what the scales tonight will show if I decide to go to SW.
Whether I go to a meeting tonight, or decide to go it alone, I think I will definitely give SW a try though. What is there to loose?!! (Except a few stone!)

Vix and Betty - what about thinking continental style breakfast? I don't mean croissants (ugh, who'd want to eat that?? ME!!!) but things like cold meats, yogurt, fruit? All very acceptable if you're having a SW red day - and Eric will be along to tell you that you should have a bit of protein with every meal to control hunger.
PS BB .... good to see you posting again. Missed you on here. And thanks for the heads up about the gluten free oats.0
