Lol, I wish we had room for a home office, I work 2 days from home and try to save my work until DS is napping but a lot of the time I have to work with CBeebies on. I wish he didn't like it so much, and I was adamant before I had him that I'd never let him watch tv so much, but seeing him laugh and wave at and copy the characters so much, I can't resist. Plus it's educational.

We're both going to save like mad, so we have a decent buffer.

I just need to get my home office sorted out, I can't work and watch CBeebies at the same time :D

Once you've got a laptop you can work anywhere. I work on the floor whilst crayoning and drawing with my daughter. I work in the kitchen whilst cooking dinner or doing the washing.

Working from home is a nice luxury but I probably work twice as hard as I used to! :rotfl::rotfl:

We don't really have the room. We live in a 2 bed flat, so the spare room will become baby's room (eventually) and luckily we have a wide hallway, so I'l going to buy a desk and sit out there. I need the quiet in case I have to dial into a meeting etc

I currently work from the dining table lol

Ok, there's a few assumptions being batted about, and a few posts I'm, quite frankly, a bit shocked at lol

Anyway, we spoke last night, there were compromises brought up that I hadn't even thought about...like getting rid of my car (hers is newer and better) and going to a one car family, and seeing as I work from home the majority of the time we won't need two cars if OH is on ML. I've dropped my phone tariff and cancelled my AA cover as my bank does breakdown cover for free. I've already saved myself ~£30 a month, I should have done it much earlier, but I set things up and forget about them.

OH said whatever phone she gets, she'll pay for no matter what. So she's getting the phone :)

Thanks for all your input, it has been invaluable and interesting to read some differing opinions, feel free to keep adding to this post so others in similar situations can get advice.

I appear to have missed the compromise.
But if it works for you.....

There was no compromise, there didn't need to be. OH said that she would pay for her own phone no matter what.

I dropped my phone tariff to save money, for us. I'm willing to sell my car because we won't need two cars, and hers is better than mine. Those were my choice...I didn't have to do any of it. It's about giving up a few things, we're both going to have to make sacrifices, regardless. My OH will sacrifice her job and career, my phone tariff and crappy Escort are nothing in comparison.

I mis-read your oringinal post then, I thought you meant she was taking maternity leave then going back to work, didn't realise you meant she would be a SAHM.

Make sure you understand the maternity pay if she doesn't intend to return to work.

I'm struggling to see the compromise there. You give up your car reduce your phone tarrif and stop using the AA. Ok they are all very good money saving ideas and will no doubt save you a small fortune but what has she given up? Is she still going to have the all singing all dancing Iphone or has she decided on a cheaper model with a shorter contract?

Relationships are about give and take the above quote seems to me that you are doing all the giving and she is doing all the taking and comes across like a recipe for resentment later down the line.

Sorry if i'm getting this all wrong i can only go off what you have written. Anyway i wish you all the best with your TTC and hope all goes well :-)
