Hello again - this will have to do instead of a postcard from Switzerland! It's gorgeous here and I think I need all the MS practice I can manage as the cost of living is very high! I am also having fun finding my way round a Swiss keyboard.
I'll probably be back online in a few days but don't worry if I'm not - I'm not home for nearly a week yet. The next few days are forecast to be hot and sunny so I hope to be doing what I've been doing today: exploring and getting as near as I ever get to a tan. After that it's due to cool down so we're planning on cultural stuff.
See you when I get back.Miggy

A very MS day today, and we've already saved a bit through me getting a bad cold and not feeling up to much exploring.
Shops close around tea time on Saturday in Switzerland and don't open again till Monday so we sensibly shopped early and planned to go again this morning to stock up for today.
Last night the weather broke with a terrific thunderstorm so we were short of sleep, plus I'd been reading the thread about the worst things people have done when really broke, and I couldn't get it out of my head.
However, a new day dawned as they do and we set off (with umbrellas) only to find everything shut. We should have guessed from the rain - it's a public hoilday! Nobody had told us as our host's son, who is here part time and is hospitality itself and very helpful, is studying in a different canton which doesn't celebrate this holiday. Soooo... eating out of the freezer it has been, and we'll replace it tomorrow. We also had a walk once the rain dried up, which cost nothing.
The apple tree in the garden has dropped a large amount of apples and they have either been going off and being thrown away or being brought into the house where tiny flies swarm round them. I've cleared all the ones that were on the ground, put the perfect ones in the cellar, neatly separated in case any go bad, and cooked a huge heap of those that wouldn't last much longer. It's made 7 litres of frozen apple puree! They are nice eating aples and perfect for cooking so I'm glad so many are 'saved', besides which I couldn't just leave them after reading about people driven to be 'creative' to get enough food to keep body and soul together.
There are still two big plates of eating apples in the kitchen - DH is having one or two apples a day and doesn't want me to cook any more in case it becomes a family joke: I may have to be creative and freeze a batch with crumble topping in situ to disguise it, LOL.Miggy

:hello: Hi Miggy!
Sorry it's been a while since I posted, lurk whenever I can but not felt 'post fit' for a while.
I can't believe you're posting while on holiday!!!! :rotfl:That's what I call dedication..(then again, it could just be a touch of OCD???:p)
Sorry you couldn't make it for the gathering... not going to give up hope of it eventually happening though!;)
Once I'm all caught up on my reading, I'll try to post or e-mail something useful. Just wanted to say hi & wish you a happy holiday!
PS..belated thanks for birthday wishes, was hiding from the sun to avoid heat rash! You really need to be a bit more specific on your birthday date though...little too vague even for me to work out the date!PROUD MEMBER OF

Coo-ee, I'm home!
SB, yes a bit OCD, LOL! Well when there's a computer available you can't expect me to ignore it, can you?! I am now confused as after having spent a week typing on a keyboard where Z and Y are in each other's place and most of teh punctuation has had a shift around, I'm trying to get back to normal.
Thanks for the holiday wishes, we had a fantastic time and Lemon Tree yes - we stayed at a relative's house while they were on holiday.
I think I've seen enough apples to last a while, haha!
And the gathering... I was sorry to miss it. I knew I didn't have many available weekends around then what with stuff that was already booked and eventually I spent some of the time at work, but I haven't given up hope of being there at some point!Miggy

I'm pretty tired tonight - you would think travel that involves sitting around for hours would be restful but it isn't, though we had a really good flight - started a bit late but had the most amazing view of the Alps and although it was cloudy later in the journey, there was a break in the cloud allowing me a sighting of the O2 Arena from around 30,000 feet!
It all seems dream-like now.
We got home - DS1 and DD had left the place looking unusually tidy but we had to get some food and ended up spending £14.55. That leaves £35.45 to last till Moday morning - this after I had been looking forward to being back in the UK and actually able to buy food normally again instead of wondering whether the money was going to stretch without resorting to a CC. Incidentally, Mr. Micawber would have been pleased with us: we came back with 55 francs unspent which will probably be put to one side as it's likely we or the older kids will go back at some point. We did have a joke about Swiss Bank Accounts while there but apparently they have closed loopholes or something and they are not such a desireable commodity.Miggy
