  • Hello miggy

I remember Bernadine Lawrence's later book "How to feed your family for £5 a day" which was published in 1995.
Fairly sure I had a copy. Wonder what happened to it?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Feed-Your-Family-Day/dp/0722525710/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1358597035&sr=8-2

I just had a look and she published an updated version of the book last year.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Feed-Your-Family-Day/dp/0007485654/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358597035&sr=8-1

It would be very interesting to compare the two to see what has changed as they are 17 years apart but are both about feeding your family on £5 a day.

Lots of snow here too but I'm enjoying it as I don't need to go anywhere either.

Good news about DD's exam and DS1's upgrade at work.
Hope DS2 gets some voluntary work sorted. It will be good to have the experience and hopefully he can find paid work too :)

Think I might go and check out NASA's website

    Ey up Miggy,

Can't believe I left the snow shovel 'at home' last weekend. Even looked at it, thought 'they are predicting snow' and then left it!!!

If your son has a look at the type of job he wants and gets some job descriptions and person specs from some current ads it will help him even more to hone down his experience and to get an advantage over other candidates!
    Well done to him though.

    All sounds good!

Is that book any good? Might be with getting it for DD Miggy?

Might get her off noodles...there's a few good books out there...

Also Mr T do some pretty good mince she can freeze in a huge pack (lasts me at least 4 meals) for just over £2 and also she should check out the cheap tinned veggies :)....and stock up...

I'm now ordering online from Mr. T. Social worker approves. It basically means I eat rather than starve or live off takeaways (I am good at the starving thing LOL). I spent £50 the first week. I got 10 deodorants (cos I didn't think I'd do it again for a year) and they 'upgraded' them for free cos they didn't have enough in - kerching!!! :money.

It's good cos it means I can see SW on a tuesday now and stuff rather than a Monday or a Thursday...

I am also coming off the e-cig....I'm down to 0mg/ml and like on the microtabs and it's really going well. Today I aim to stick to no more often than one microtab every 90 mins. Yesterday I did one hour in the ams and then had a break in the pms.

So yeah...going well. Have you heard of daily bread bible notes Miggy? Or what bible notes do you use? I got them online and for android quite cheap (though quite expensive for kindle) so like hope they come soon. They are the ones in coloured font on white and you can pick them up free from some places. So many bibles are available free for android and kindle etc it's amazing :D

I lashed out and bought a new ESV (shock horror......Erme is going to hell for not reading the AV LOL) last week which I really like. I have to say I did try the SU notes and didn't like them (and they're expensive) but they too are available online for free.

So yeah tis me....breakfast beckoneth and then I have a heap of housework to do today :P

Hi Erme, lots going on in your neck of the woods, then? How are you doing with less of the e-cig and more of the ratties? Are you going to put a pic up soon or did I miss it? :)
I use the Every Day with Jesus notes - I order a year's worth at Christmas! The style is starting to sound a little bit dated now but what he says is very sound.
I also get the freebie UCB ones by post though you can read them online. Tend to use those for when I remember I haven't read any Bible and have to get some sleep, though.
And re: the AV - Jesus didn't use it either. ;) (Though it's supposed to be very faithful to the original).
And on-line shopping sounds like a good idea (have you come across Approved Food yet? Though they aren't as good as they were).

As for miggydom - well the PO are repaying us the £150, sort of. At least they are not charging us till our bills cover that amount, which is nice but not ideal. (Ideally they repay immediately and let us off bills for six months as a goodwill gesture - dream on! :D).

I have just remembered I have to pay two bills for Mum - eek, should have been done days ago.

I have been doing a lot of computer work for a few days as part of a cunning plan, and if I have escaped DVT it will be a miracle. Tomorrow I will have RSI but at least my typing speed has proved not to have sunk into oblivion: I was just out of practice. The typing madly will continue after a short break. Am I digging myself out of hole? Time will tell.

Argh don't get me into bible version debates LOL

I'm alive and well thought the wee rascals just chewed the hammock strap I only got 2 days ago...think it's going to be sewing machine out this weekend (tis just made of bias binding). I spoil them but there are limits.

Also just made up a bowl of popcorn so that has gone in their food box (I figure it's just as cheap to make my own rat food and keep it varied. Mr T do a nae bad rabbit mix for a few quid you can supplement with dried dog food (comes to less than £5 for the both) which should last a while and then they just need millet puffs from the health food store.

So yeah..social worker was saying 'E you need to hoover' and my Bosch (brilliant) weighs half a tonne!!!! (feels like it) so like bunged that on classifieds and got a cheap (noisy) one from Mr S. Feel bad about missing out on the vax for £50 with 2 year guarantee (this one only has 1) but still. Judging my my experience with airers it probably only will last 1 year or 2 years tops and this one will be just as good as is £15 cheaper (with metal telescopic tube)...might be worth telling DS Miggy? It's £40 normally (think it's worth that) but right now is on offer for £35. Not long cable but you're not going to get anything with a decent cable for less than £100 (Bosch - @ Mr JL)

So yeah tis me..back padding. Having probs with another thread who mistakenly think I'm a troll and delete all my posts and like the board guides haven't got back to me on that yet :(

    re the e-cig

Disaster but lessons learnt. I tried the microtabs for a week but only lasted 6 days cos I reduced too fast then the chemist said I couldn't get them on prescription cos I'd been off cigs for 18 months :( (So much for honesty!!!) so am having a wee break from stressing about it. The lozenges and microtabs are fab for places you can't vape though so am ordering off ebay and unlike the sprays have no acid in them (sure that's bust my smell all that acid over the years from the spray)

    So yeah tis me

Those ratties of yours sound such fun Erme... am still missing having a SF about the place. :( However it IS good not to have to worry about keeping them warm in the depths of a Yorkshire winter.

Even if you didn't keep to the patches for long I still think you're heading in the right direction. Shame they're not on prescription for you though. That really doesn't sound as though it's been thought through.

How is your hoovering going and do you want to practise on my house? ;) We have a (rather ancient) Vax which is good but we've had to replace the hose bit a few weeks ago as it died of over use. Ah well. Cheaper than replacing the whole thing and it's very useful when it comes to carpet shampooing too. I'm sorry you missed out on the Vax but they are a bit chunky so you will probably get better use out of the lighter one.

Money-wise - not too much happening and we are still just about clinging on to the old food budget. DD's student loan is through so I haven't had to help her with food purchases.

Am having to miss a couple of piano lessons this month due to work which saves me £20.

I have been working over the weekend - four nights and I'm still not recovered, but I have an extra two nights at the end of this week which means an extra week's pay! Wooooo!

I've also been completing my NVQ which has been quite a saga. I don't know how soon I'll find out whether I've passed... hope it all works out because it will mean a permanent payrise and as it is I'm stuck on the level I'm at until I have the qualification.

The big news is an advance in the Cunning Plan: well, I say big news, but I'm keeping it under my hat at the moment. ;)

Cunning plan advances nicely...I have a job offer! I'm going to try some fancy footwork to see if I can keep part of my existing job which will boost my income, but if it proves too hard, I'll leave.

February, thankfully, has not been nearly as expensive as January and I've had plenty of time off (perhaps why I feel able to tackle more hours at work?) - just longing for spring.

I've recently discovered an addictive website: agirlcalledjack.com. Worth a look.

Not much progress to report though the new job is getting closer (held up by paperwork). I still haven't decided what line to take with regard to hours in my present job: my manager didn't look too pleased when I talked about reducing my hours. Apparently it's difficult to accommodate. That's true, but on the other hand - give me say two shifts together instead of four, and there are two shifts for someone else to pick up (cheers from all the rest of the team, who will not now be getting as many extra hours due to new appointments). They already have to give me extra hours for training, supervision and meetings, and they've never complained about this to me - though now apparently it's going to be a problem?

Well, I'm not going to worry about it this time of night. There are plenty of people with more serious things on their minds, and my heart goes out to them. This extended winter and the chilly winds of government policy are making things so, so hard for so many people.

Still, there are daffodils in bloom and they will last longer than usual. :) Spring is on the way and nothing can stop it.

I am just emerging from that tunnel I call 'working nights'... great sleep today! I needed it. Tomorrow I have a meeting about my new work and will be trying to negotiate my way to keeping half of my present job while plunging into the new one.

Either that or I will join DS1 sunbathing on the trampoline... I know the weather people say it's 15C out there but it feels warm to us!
