I realised there have been a couple of money-related things I haven't updated:
- wombled 10p yesterday
- slow cookered a liver and bacon casserole yesterday (I heard that! "Eww!" indeed! It was yummy!) using stuff we already had, though I also bought stuff for DS2 to eat for a couple of days.
- DH has the chance to go for a job share at the level he was acting up to two years ago.
Work this afternoon / night...Miggy

Hi Miggy,
How are your arms/shoulders feeling? Are you more used to the bike. My lower back still hurts whenever I ride. A nice cyclist told me I don't raise myself off the bike enough when I'm riding over uneven surfaces. It definitely helps, when I remember to do that! In case you get the same issues in your back when you ride more.
I have the womble song in my mind now. Such a cute theme! Thank you. I've been wombling more and more pennies these days too. Maybe I'm just a little more observant these days.
I hope all is peaceful at work for you.0 -
Thanks Muffy! The arms and shoulders are fine now: they're not my strong point so I suppose I can expect them to feel the strain. The tip about uneven surfaces is very welcome as I need to get into good habits and there are plenty of uneven surfaces.
I'm afraid I have to confess to not having been on the bike since! I practised at the weekend on the industrial estate, which was almost empty and had lots of space for circles but until I can keep a straight line parallel to a kerb, I'm avoiding cycling locally! Narrow road, parked cars...
Wombles... I lived in Wimbledon for a while. Nice memories.Never saw a womble, though I did keep my eyes open and saw dragon flies galore, and a fox on the Common.
Work is fairly unremarkable at the moment, unless you count a colleague leaving. Generally moral isn't the best but being on nights I don't get the brunt of that. I was even idly wondering (again) about increasing my hours but I don't think another night is good for my health and I'm certainly not wanting to go back to days. It might be more money but for me that wouldn't be an increase in my standard of living.
Still, the sleep-in shift has a sleep-in payment which is nice.Miggy

Me... even when I was vegetarian the thought of it didn't repulse me.
Back from a good night's sleep at work(legitimate - even if a colleague did tell me how much better sleeps are paid somewhere else) and feeling very weird because I'm not going to bed. But I always go to bed when I get in at eight... not now I don't.
Came in to be told DS2 (who is already in my bad books) has spilt toad in the hole batter on the sofa, so the washing machine is now on. Well, he can just put the covers back - they're a struggle at the best of times...
On the plus side I wombled 11p this morning, but managed to forget to swipe my card for 4p's worth of shopping I'd just done. See what I mean about feeling I should go back to bed?Miggy

I'm not sure what's up with me this morning: I keep getting attacks of nervousness. Usually this is helped by tracking down the cause but I think there's more than one of those: Ds2 is out all day at the footie with a friend and he's new to doing this though he's been with his brother a few times. I'm due to visit Mum this afternoon which also tends to get put off, possibly because I know that after that I won't have time of energy for much else.
Lots of jobs needing to be done: DS2 has discovered a bad patch of mould in a cupboard in his room so that requires a step ladder and bleach. There is an assortment of cleaning already started in the kitchen and it would be nice to get some baking done for next week. Of course the garden and de-cluttering both need attention. So what do I do? Go online and start looking into studying something - not sure what.
I should be doing the last few questions for my NVQ3 but am solidly lacking ambition in that direction. I can do my job very well without it and something in me says that once I have those letters I'll be seen as more worthy, as if I were inadequate at the moment. Sad. I don't have to use them after all - and it would mean a pay increase but I don't really want that either, though I'm sure I'd find a use for it.
This may be MSE, but if I have enough, then why should I chase after more? I suppose the best reason of all - and the one most likely to motivate me, is that once I've done it, it's off my back.
Oh dear, what a mood.Somebody pick up the rattle I threw out of my pram, please.
... and I'm tired. Maybe I should go back to bed after all?:D

I think I've made up my mind.
Out of the house to buy bleach and a washing up brush, then out for coffee with DD later.Miggy

Hello Miggy,
There's obviously something in the air as I've been suffering from "impending doom" thoughts and worries this week! Maybe tiredness is the reason for us both as I know I've felt quite drained this week.
I would say, based on your explanation of the NVQ3, to get it done and out the way as I have a feeling it will stick in the back of your mind until it's done and dusted. Incomplete things tend to haunt people like you and I, so just take your time and move it forward? Then you'll know you're either working on it, or it's off the list and out of the niggle section of your mind.0 -
You sound like you need a hug? xx :grouphug:
I'm sure the weather can't be helping.
We spend all our lives trying to achieve what others want us to be, or what we feel they want us to be? Do we ever acheive what WE want? That's called selfishness, isn't it? What is there to achieve in life other than happiness? inner peace?
Ultimately family and having those who care for you, are all that really matters. Hark at me.What price achievements, possessions, ( says the person who has a love affair with their car,) However, it's old and decrepit, like me.
None of it, really matters, does it?Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Thanks, both of you.
I still haven't made it out of the house (apart from coming home from work earlier) but DD is okay for coffee in half and hour so that should get me off the computer and away from the kitchen. The washing machine is on for the 3rd time today - twice for the settee covers (now clean but probably shrunken) and once for an ordinary wash. Small Furry has been captured and put in the run - she decided to make a dash for the inaccessible corner of her hutch every time I went over there in the past few days. She has it down to fine art: within reach of any greenery and out of reach of my arm. Ha! Comes to something when I've thwarted a pet rabbit, doesn't it?
Muffy, you are quite right about the NVQ and it helps to hear it.I need to do something rather than nothing and break through the 'not started barrier'. Actually I've done lots of it already, just ground to a halt so I need some momentum.
Ani, interestingly enough I ended up doing a study on 'joy' once - well, a group of us did and I was left with that to finish as we never felt as a group that we had a satisfactory conclusion - so I searched round and found a consensus. Apparently it isn't found by those who pursue it as an end in itself, but happens when we are doing something else. The whole thing about pleasing self/others is a tricky balance. Either, to the exclusion of the other, seems to be a bad idea, doesn't it? Or dear, I am getting philosophical today!
Same with possessions - too many or too few - either is a problem.
So much for your Psalms quotation: today you are sounding a lot like Ecclesiastes - now there's a book that's invites comment!
By the way I was trying to find your quotation last night without a concordance or access to t'internet and didn't manage it but I will have a look later.
How is your reading day going? I saw a tee shirt just two days ago, worn by a Scout leader, with the silhouette of a bear attending to a BBQ. Homage to the Chief Scout indeed.Miggy
