That's an interesting one - thanks Erme! A lot more detailed than we managed but if I'm leading I can always do with more depth. :)

A bit achey now - I've finally tackled the brambles! In fact I'm quite proud of myself (though I should never have let them get so out of hand in the first place).

The course at work turned out to be interesting AND we finished early, but I didn't manage to get home for lunch so I spent 85p on a sandwich. At least the calories weren't too horrendous - what is it with shop-bought sandwiches that the nicest ones are laden with (unnecessary) calories?

Hoping to go to see the Olympic torch tomorrow but I'm not making any promises I'll be successful.

Olympic torch winging its way here soon. Considering having a peek, since there are lots of events too. The only thing which irritates me is there is only one local resident, carrying the torch.

I'm glad the course was interesting, with the bonus of leaving early. Those calorie laden ones look so tempting so I really admire your control.

Good luck with seeing the torch today.

Torch well and truly seen: DD decided to come with me which was nice - DS2 was out with friends, goodness knows if he saw it; DH watched from the top window at work and therefore got a very good view, and DS1 was intending to see it from his work too. Whether he managed it I don't yet know.

Talking of DS1, he didn't get the job he interviewed for but his feedback was very positive. In fact, they didn't appoint anyone and have said he can apply again, so he's going to!

Okay, so DD and I saw the torch from a great viewpoint as it began lapping the town, then nipped across to see it again as it finished the High Street! DD informs me one of the torch bearers we saw was a girl who was in DS1's class at primary school... I didn't recognise her as I last saw her to speak to when she was about 5, at DS1's fifth birthday party! :D

Nice atmosphere. :) A highlight was a tiny boy, no more than two I think, who spotted the flashy motorbike and uniform of one of the outriders who paused in front of him. The tot went forward and held out a hand and the policeman leant down to touch his fingers. One happy tot - he may not remember the flame with such excitement!

Town was full, as you can imagine, and I saw some people doing a flag day and remembered I'd been asked to help and had said I'd pop in if I could, so of course I then felt obliged and stood outside for half an hour getting the sun on one arm and one side of my face while listening to a busker do a reasonable but not brilliant Elvis.

Standing there watching the world go by and chatting to several acquaintances, I noticed the market stall opposite had a good offer on kitchen towels, so I went back later and saved 25p. :D I then bought some bits from the fruit stall (saving £1ish), and meandered home via the greengrocer (determined to have salad) and Mr T, who was in a bargainaceous mood and had glace cherries on at half price. Not something I buy often but I wanted to make cherry cake and for what I would have paid I now have a tub to put aside for Christmas cake as well. :) Also margarine on offer (saved about 40p) and DD's favourite cheese (saved £2.24 by getting two big blocks).

Total savings, if you allow that I would have paid full price later for the cherries, £5.88. :)

I've promised to see Mum later and it's too warm to do the garden yet so I'm now having a break...
