It's still raining but I've done some exercise... maybe the rain will drown the slugs? There's always a silver lining, isn't there? :)

    The rain it raineth everywhere,
Upon the just and unjust fella:
But most it rains upon the just
'Cos the unjust's got the just's umbrella.

The jury's out upon that one.
Like so much else, 'twas learnt from Mum. :D

Somehow, i don't think the rain drowning the slugs is going to happen :o

Btw - I have lots of gel pod type things in my tubs. I instinctively know this means bad news. How bad?

( Is it anything to do with slimey critters?)

Learn gardening? Had to smile at that one :p
:D I should just get out there and do it, but I have no idea what I'm doing! Although my garden is basic enough that I couldn't cause any damage!

Hello you lot! Have you left me any biscuits?

Erme, good that you have your Kindle back! I too am sooo last century, possibly because I have hundreds of books but haven't yet succumbed to a kindle. You can be sure if ever I get one, it will immediately become sooo last year. ;)

Have you tried http://www.gutenberg.org/? I know there are others but that's the only one I know. You can find all sorts of interesting stuff: I just wandered across this.

Your £5... hope she's in a position to give it back soon but I think you did the right thing. :) Anyway, if the weather goes on as it has recently, you may be better staying in.

Ani, the gel pod things aren't bad news so long as you catch them before they hatch into slugs. Light, air and dryness will 'cure' them - or possibly wild birds.

Muffy, I'm one of those people who absorbed gardening from before I can remember, because my parents were both keen and knowledgeable, so while I wasn't known for tending my own little corner, I could prune a rose or carry water from quite an early age. What started me in being seriously interested in plants was taking a few to College to look after. I had a couple of friends who also had a few plants so it was rather the thing to do and I had some plants that loved the conditions in my room so I quickly got a reputation for green fingers. That's the total secret of my success: find things that thrive on the kind of neglect I am best at giving. :) I do read up on individual plants as I get them (sometimes) and that makes better sense than reading in the abstract.

And remember it's all a learning curve and even the ones that die off can teach us something. ;) How do you think the great gardens learnt about the virtues of compost? ;) :rotfl:

Actually I came on here to ramble about something completely different. :)

Today is a tired day but I'll go for an early night. We were invited to a friend's birthday open house which was nice though we couldn't stay long, having to hurry back to ferry DS2 to a party - so somewhere in rural North Yorkshire late tonight, some person who's had one over the eight may well go home telling how they saw a Jedi walking in the rain, possibly accompanied by Superman, or whatever else is deemed acceptable to teenage lads at the moment.

Must admit his costume is good, though. He tells me it will double as a dressing gown later! So, pub goer in the midnight rain will see a dressing-gown clad Jedi mooching through the village... actually he bears some resemblance to Mark Hamill: maybe some of his super-tall friends will go as Chewbacca?
