Tired this evening but I've managed a few things today including the first visit to Mum for a week. I feel bad about that but I haven't the energy to visit her when I'm working. I don't know why it's so tiring, but it is. Anyway she's doing okay and I met a couple of the new staff. Favourably impressed. I went out for shopping earlier and got some bargains from the market but Mum has handed me back some of the chocolate I got her, so maybe that wasn't such a good idea! :D

I also got some plants that B&Q were selling off: one of those bright orangey begonias that grows from a tuber (I have a red one that's been going a few years now), more Lily of the Valley - most of the packet still seems to be alive - and a pink peony, "Sarah Bernhardt", which is a classic. I've wanted a peony since before I got married - there was one in the lawn where now-DH lived.

Chips for tea. Lucky me. :)

DS1 has texted from New York (lucky him!) to say he's arrived safely. Good. Wonder if I'll ever go there? Like Arthur Dent, part of me doesn't believe it exists anyway. :D

Aherm - i never managed to find any lily of the valley. Definitely no more buying plants for me, now. :o

DH lived in the lawn? Was he a mole who lived in a hole? :D

Been to NY a couple of times, the last time, not so long before 9/11. It's sad to look back in retrospect. Guess i've got some photos, somewhere. I have to say, one of my highlights was visiting Schwarz and seeing the big piano as in Tom Hanks fame, ( big.) Got to be done. :) The Flatiron building is my favourite building in NY.

Yes: judging by the state of the shared house, the lawn was the most hygienic place...

I have put a red geranium in the window and a white one outside as I have no flags.

Have taken red geranium cuttings... any takers?!

I wasn't going to do anything for the Jubilee but one kind of feels there's a party going on regardless of whether I do or not so I might as well join in, :) However it's a good deal drier here than there. Ani, you have a lot to answer for. ;)

Well, that was some weekend, both good stuff and bad.

The Jubilee is going on regardless so I'm sitting back and watching the parts I want to watch. It's nice to have everyone home except it isn't everyone as DS1 is in NY, hopefully having a great time.

On the sad side, just before DS went, he had a traumatic day. One of his colleagues rang in with a family emergency which has now developed into a tragedy: her teenage son died very suddenly. DS2 knew him slightly through school. It was a completely unforeseeable medical condition. In a town this size where so many people know each other or know someone who knows someone... lots of people are affected.

On the same day, DS1 was walking through town when he heard a scream and a thud, and found there had been a hit and run accident right behind him. Someone tried to block the driver but he got away by driving on the pavement. The police and ambulance were there almost at once. I think DS was very shocked: in that state where you can't think clearly, but he managed to direct traffic away from the victim for which I'm very proud of him. I don't know what the outcome was.

Oddly enough, at the same age I witnessed a RTA with several similarities and it was influential in my meeting DH... strange old world.

Tomorrow is a day off - and so is the day after. Car boot in the morning methinks, which reminds me I have tended a few of my plants today and potted up the peony. :)

I missed the car boot and did The Shred instead - much better for me. :)

    Much cheaper too.

We have bought replacement bathroom taps so now we have the unenviable task of taking the old ones off. Both have worn out within a week of each other. One is just the washer but the other has a miniscule hole which leaks and leaves calcium build up. They both work loose on their bases so we get leaks form there too.

I will leave Dh to it if at all possible and do some gardening.
